they are babe...get this...walmart makes a 100% profit on all merchandise from china, they have stores there, but cant take the money out of the country..so, they use it to buy goods to sell everyplace else, so the have no money in the products they sell here!!!

I guess if i had walmart stock..i wouldn't care...its all about the money:( lol

do you know Glam, originally Sam wanted his stores in only small towns (50,000 or less) so they could benefit from his ability to make prices lower:)

walmart started in small towns...lol

He also wanted to only sell things made in America....a noble goal but after he died - they bought overseas and purposely went into small towns to destroy the mom and pop stores. Where I live we have REALLY small towns of 5000-8000 people that ALL now have WalMarts...and the local stores will have to close within a few years because they can't compete with the prices....sad....because as soon as WalMart can't make enough money in those towns - they'll leave! And leave the town with nothing...that's REALLY SAD!X_X

I've worked for Wal-mart for about 8 years now, that being said, its the perfect production of capitalism. All it really does is try to redistribute sales from various areas to itself, and true for mom and pop stores this is bad and in small communities most companies can't compete with their prices. Frankly I found the comment about Wal-mart not having any money tied up in its product kinda funny because somewhere around half of our sales are from grocery items that are not imported from china. However for all those mom and pops out there which is worse, the fact that Wal-mart is giving customers the option of other places to shop or the customers for choosing to shop there? And to stave off some of the unavoidable flames for saying what i have, yes i agree Wal-mart is not always acting in the best interests of its customers or employees. Such as the fact they just transferred a manager from my store to another rather than fire her despite multiple complaints of flagrant discrimination.

P.S. 99% of "documentaries" these days are trash, e.g. Micheal Moore, simply because they use whatever "facts" or "statistics" that support their side regardless of any information to the contrary and/or tell sob stories to make their points seem like some heart-wrenching tale of woe. Case in point in "Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Prices" they talked to a single mother who lived in California who was complaining about not making enough money to support her family, now the part of this that made me laugh at her sob story is that her job of inventory control(a bit of a misnomer for an organizational job) is actually not a real technical job and is a pay grade 3 job meaning your base pay is 40cents higher than the normal base pay, still better than cashier which is only 20cents higher, back on point of rank, she was complaining that she didn't have enough money for her to support her kids and go to school herself... Very few nontechnical jobs would pay enough for a single mom to support her kids and for her to go to even a vocational school in her free time. But of course the focus of the "documentary" was how bad Wal-Mart was for not paying her enough to be able to do all the things she wanted to. I apologize for the length of the rank. /Endrank

It's easy to hate on multi-national corporations, but in Wal-Mart's case it's entirely justified.

I don't know much about Walmart. They once tried to break into the German market, but they didn't make it for longer than 9 years... Germany is Walmart-free since 2006 ^^

That's something we can count on until the end of all times. Walmart made in these 9 years a loss of three billion Euro and they sold all markets to their biggest rival, Metro.

I guess the biggest chains are ALDI and LIDL, both discounters. Then there are Metro, REWE and many others.

We had a couple of ALDI grocery stores open here about a year ago, I swear it's the worst food I've ever had. Everything I bought from there taste bad, from potato chips with no flavor to the bitter coffee and creamer that upset my stomach...

Hell, they even managed to make something as horrible as canned spaghetti & meatballs taste even worse than I thought possible.

It was bad enough to drive me back to Walmart's cold, evil embrace...

Over here in Germany, ALDI has a good reputation... and you don't get Canned Spaghetti and Meatballs there
