I want to be more conversant in Chinese, Japanese and Korean then German and Italian. I currently speak English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French on top of my native language, Tagalog. I love Polish (Chopin, Wieniawski et al) and Czech (Dvořák and Smetana, et al) music so I guess I can be persuaded to learn their language too sometime in the future. No interest just yet in Arabic nor any of the other languages of Africa or the Indian Sub-continent.

When you are speaking Tagalog as your native language you must be from the Philippines. Very interesting - because that since a very long time is a country of my dreams - and if you are asking why, I couldn't give you an answer. It is like it is.

But I bow deep my head in front of you because of your knowledge of so many not so very easy languages of Europe. My native language is German and I'm so-la-la in English (let me say I couldn't get lost in an English speaking country!) :)

And as well I'm happily surprised that you are loving also the classic music of the great composers Dvorak, Smetana and Chopin.

Love to you! p:p:thumbs up:

The only other language other than English that I can speak or read pretty well is Spanish. Actually it wouldn't hurt to brush up a little on that before I try to learn another language.....

If I ever have the time I wouldn't mind learning French or German......

I used to speak French and Spanish, but I I have found with being a senior I have had to let everything but English and basic Spanish go. I tried recently to really improve my Spanish and found out it was a no go as it was messing with my English. I think learning languages is best left for younger people. I hate I lost French but I still enjoy listening to French singers.

When in Mexico or any other Spanish speaking country,
the word cerveza (beer) is essential and don't ask for
burro when you want butter. They will bring you a donkey
instead if the waiter is being an ass. The word is mantequilla.

With the internet, it’s a lot easier than ever to learn or brush up on another language although practicing it and putting it to use still depends much on the kindness and welcoming acceptance of native speakers. This is the reason I eased into Spanish and Portuguese effortlessly, people in bus stations and other public spaces readily talk to you. Same in Italy, say bon giorno and they receive you with open arms. French, I acquired with pure determination, those wretched moonlighting instructors in the local Alliance Française are more impediment than help. Fortunately, their is a branch of York University called Glendon College with kind and encouraging instructors who btw are all also from France.

As I said upstairs, with the internet, it’s a lot easier more than ever to acquire a new language. A second language pays off in unexpected ways. With Italian, to grasp all that they are crooning about in Italian opera on top of acquiring the capability to read Petrach, Dante, Lampedusa and Umberto Eco is well worth the effort. Besides, language is essential for procuring sex.

To me, understanding fully what this fellow is saying more than paid off the little effort expended in picking up Spanish:

I'd like to learn sign language. As someone with poor hearing(But by no means deaf) it got me thinking what a wonderful invention this was along with Braille for the visually impaired.

Polish, attractive guys

As the clip above and almost any other clip on learning a new language you find on Youtube emphasize, the degree of difficulty of learning any language depends on many factors. These factors whatever they may be can be transcended by your motivation. This was certainly true with me with my compulsion to acquire some command of Brazilian Portuguese.

For people who are already used to the Latin alphabet, any other latinized language would seem easier to acquire than a language which you have to learn a new set of written symbols for.

Sino-Japonick language. I can pick up a lot of the words in both Chinese and Japanese and can follow what’s going on in a clip as long as the clip is porn or about food.

Tagalog. That’s my native language although the way I speak it had become rusty because I have been living abroad for the most part of fifty years. A few years ago, I contributed a version of my coming of age story in a Filipino smut site and got quite a few comments that my spelling and certain locutions I used are no longer idiomatic or perhaps outdated.
