When did being gay become a joke?

What do you think about this sterotype tv-gays you see? Their funny and very very gay. For example bruno, fab5 etc. It seems that calling someone a fag is a joke to everyone and everybody laughs. Im happy that things are more tolerant these days but has being gay become a joke? I know everyones different and so on but any thoughts about this matter?:whew:

hmm well everything in society is a bit of a joke, we have black jokes, white jokes, gay jokes, mexican jokes...etc. And to be honest i laught at all of them. But there is a rather fine line when its wrong and sometimes comedians can't see them. As for tv characters, well thats how society potrays things--in stereotypes. Can't expect to get much truth from mainstream media!

Well yeah the mainstream is all about making money but its sad that it affects to people. For example some of my straight friends who are okay with that Im gay but they don't take it seriously. They can talk about sex, love etc stuff seriously but if I do it they get this stereotype in their minds that its all about sex, dildos, bdsm and so on. I know that they don't realize it and Im happy that they are okay with gays but it's just a bummer. And they accept me because they knew me when I was in closet. Otherwise we wouldn't be friends because of the stereotypes.

I think like everyone else said above...it's pretty much just a media portrayal to amuse people. I don't particularly feel offended by it, sometimes it is rather funny. I mean being gay or bi or straight is a piece of who you are, and there are stereotypes attached to each thing.

This is my friend Alice, she is straight and bangs lots of men. This makes me think Alice = slut even though she could just be going through a phase.

Now you've opened up another avenue ! Why are girls who like sex called sluts, yet men are often thought of as something wonderful and big studs?

Everybody likes sex, it's natural, but there we go with more stereotyping.

funny how according to past traditions women are supposed to be generally weak. Yet they are expected to keep their sexual urges in check, While men are said to be too weak to keep their sexual urges in check. talk about a double standard! But with new times, comes new names, like say "man whore" for those men who love to sleep around. man whore = Slut

p.s. not stepping fingers here, ppl should be able fuck who they want when they want, but be ready for the consequences of their actions.
