So if the site goes down say for technical reasons or whatever is there a secondary place we can go to to check on the status of the website. Like a blog or something???

For it to really be a backup it would have to be a mailing list hosted on some other service like a google group or something. Anything using the forum software of the server the forum runs on is not a reliable backup - if the server goes belly up our back-channel would vanish too!

That sounds like over-kill though. The aim is not to make more work for Voyager and the guys! I think the initial suggestion of a tumblr blog is perfect - no maintenance effort at all required.

Yup just have a blog somewhere and that way people can check the status of the forum. Weather its just them or the site on a whole.

As long as they are short notices!

I think tumblr is the perfect middle-ground between the blog and twitter ideas. No maintenance, easy to post, and you can post long enough updates to explain what's really going on.

i've gotta agree. I'm not a fan of twitter, a blog would work great. If GH has problems, a simple announcement would inform all.

I see your point! Just remember, blogs are nice but can be high maintenance.. sometimes it can have the same amount of work attached to it as an entire forum depending upon the usage

If you go to the trouble of running your own wordpress install sure, but I don't think anyone is suggesting that. What people are suggesting is that that gayheaven admins open an account on some fully managed service like tumblr or wordpress.com or what ever. They would have zero maintenance work on it.

Yeah I mean they just make the occasional post when the is a problem in order to notify people when they can't access the site.

Guys If we have a word press or other forum software there will have the same problem. If 700 members log in there will be the same thing as there are now. The problem is if there is no sufficient full bandwidth or full working server there will be the same problem as the are now. We try to do our best but in this case there are a hosting problem that we not can do anything about.

All we can do is wait and hope the Server Hoster fix that problem

I understand that but sometimes I can't log in and can't access the forum to determine why If there was just an external source of determining the status of the site. That would be good.

Well we used to be able to use the instant message system on Radix's gay.boy.porn blog... but that site is no longer available.
