I wouldn't go as far as to use "pleasing"; that's not who I am as a person... but the matriarch of our family would probably be my mother. Everything seems to go through her and she's the one that brings us together most of the time. There has never really been a strong male figure in my family. After my grandmother died in 1988, my mother sort of took over everything and it's been that way ever since.

I think our family splintered and there is no heart to it anymore. My Mum is the one to me anyway we group around.

I think it's a shame really that times changed and there is no focal point in a family very often. It had it's bad side, but it also brought a together-ness and to some extent a stability.

Times change , I don't look back with rose colored glasses, it's easy to pick out the good stuff and ignore the bad bits, today we have better understanding of a whole lot more.

When my dad was still with us, he was the heart and soul of the family, and he shared that very courageously (for that era) with my mother. They both passed within 6 months of each other (Mom first), and it all sort of came apart after that. The three siblings of our family, of which I'm the senior, still are very much in touch with each other and we visit regularly. The lesson about family always being there for each other was learned well.

My family is a nest of black widows...

There are only 3 males (on my mothers side) from my generation, and two of us are gay, lol.

It would seem that men only have two purposes in my family, first to marry and bring new blood into the mix, and second, to father children. Afterwards, we are of no use to them. In most cases, if a male member of my family were to divorce his first wife, he becomes, more or less, dead to them, and the ex-wives remain an integral part of the clan...

Since her aunt died, my mother has taken the throne. She is the one who everybody comes to for advice, the one everybody dotes on, the one all the children want approval from...

And the next generation is looking bright for them. My cousins have done well, six daughters and one son, my replacement as the enforcer. The queen is pleased...

My grandmother is the matriarch of our family. What she says goes, which will create a problem when she dies because she doesn't want anyone at her funeral that wasn't there when she was alive. which will create an all out war in our family which all ready started with my grandfather dying. Maybe i should explain my family tree. My grandfather was married at the time he met my grandmother and had five children with his first wife who was mentally unstable so when my grandparents married she had to raise those children and the five she got with my grandfather. Which wasn't a problem for my grandmother because she raised up her brothers and sisters because her mother was either sick or dying which she didn't do until she was in her 80's. So anyway when my grandfather died the five oldest came and promised to come back real soon my grandfather died 7 years ago and she's still waiting. My grandmother is stubborn and proud so she won't make the first move. Last weekend i found out that when my uncle celebrated his 50th birthday he didn't invite the oldest because he supports my grandmother, which made them very angry. It made my aunt who had a brain tumor so angry she didn't want anyone of us at her funeral. My aunt Kitty was told by a cousin of ours so my family went to her funeral. I on the other was told last weekend that my aunt had died which was quite upsetting to find out months later , maybe we should fire our matriarch.
