Why do we only have one heart?

I mean it is probably the most MAJOR organ in the body to keep you alive.

We have two of lots of other bits inside up. If one fails you can still survive on one.

Survive on one lung
Survive on one kidney
Survive one eye
Survive with one ear
Survive with one arm
Survive with one leg
Even survive with one testicle

So why on earth do we have one heart and if that has issues THAT'S IT!

Any thoughts?

From an evolutionary point, there's been no particular reason for having one heart besides from that it's been most beneficial to simply have one. Survival of the fittest. :) Or maybe we just haven't had the opportunity of having two hearts, although I highly doubt it. I think some have been born with two hearts; problem is that they've died and therefore having two hearts is a weakness rather than strength. They didn't survive long enough to produce offspring. Perhaps having two hearts led to the heart rhythm being off, or maybe the blood circulation was affected in a negative way. I can only guess why... The body is a very complex system and everything have to work together in order for it to work, but as long as an individual with two hearts isn't able to survive or is in some way "weaker" than an individual with one heart, then I don't think we'll be seeing anyone with two hearts anytime soon. :)

:agree:

I also argue that there is no life without a brain, but many are of the opposite opinion (monotheistic religions).

Hm, I usually don't answer a question with a new question, but sometimes it seems logical. So: why has a cat nine lives when he dies anyway after losing the first one?

Because my plans to replace my heart with another liver—so I can drink more and care less—unfortunately fell through.

I'm just gonna leave this here..

We were Given 2 arms to reach.
2 Legs to travel.
2 Lungs to Breathe.
2 Eyes to see.
2 Ears to Hear.
2 Hands to hold.
But why only one heart ?
Because someone or something else has the second half of the pair.
And its our Job to find that someone Or something.

It would be almost impossible to keep two hears in sync. Blood pressure is such a sensitive parameter in the body. If it's too high the vessels would burst, and too low, it won't make it back to the lung. If you have two hearts, I guess you would have to put it in series?

In an organic construction like a living body it's by the flow parameters impossible to work with two pumps^^

More than one heart could lead to serious pressure and pulse
coordination adjustment problems.
