Is the Word Homosexual Offensive
To me it depends on the context of how the word is used. Like if friend of mine that I've known for a while asks me "you're a homosexual?" I'm not going to take offense to that because it is the exact same thing as saying "you're gay?". Same meaning, just two different words.
But now if someone were to say to me from like an anti-gay demonstration "you're a sinning homosexual", I would take that in an offensive manner because it was used in a way to try to degrade me. And don't get me started on that subject because these so called "Christians" with their high and mighty book of the Lord are the biggest sinners on the planet if they would actually read that thing. I consider myself an Atheist and I have read it.
Now with my next statement PLEASE don't think I'm trying to be offensive to anyone, this is just an example of offensive words in context.
I have a small group of friends who are black. I hate calling them African-American because they are not. They are 100% American born and raised who's family ethnicity just happens to come from Africa. It would be like calling me Swedish-American because though my mom and dad were born here, the one set of grandparents I knew were originally from Sweden. But, getting past that, when we are hanging out and one of their other black friends comes up they will sometimes say "yo, what's up my nigga". I always feel a little awkward standing around with them when they do it because to me the word is very uncomfortable. But between themselves there is no harm in it. But if when they came up to me to say Hi and I said that, fuck I'd probably get my ass beat. To come from me it would be very offensive to them.
So is the word "homosexual" offensive? On it's own no. In the proper context no. But if it is used in a way that is MEANT to degrade someone, then yes it is.
