This is the email I receive,

Dear shaun,
We have determined that you are not eligible for the Windows® 7 Upgrade Program from HP, because either the date of purchase or place of purchase, did not match your proof of purchase or other supporting documents. Your order has therefore been cancelled. Your account will not be charged.

Please allow up to 24 hours for status updates to be reflected. Please submit your changes by February 15, 2010 or your orders will have to be cancelled.

That's fucked up...no wonder you're a mess. I'd be fuming too. When its all said and done and you finally get your free :? upgrade, send a nasty letter...you never know you might get a free mouse pad, as long as you pay the shipping...X_X

P.S. the CEO of HP makes about $40 million a year...X(

I'm in the same boat! I haven't had too many niggles really though, and just changed to Firefox as I'm sure IE didn't work as well as it should, or maybe it was a blip.

It's a while since I last used Firefox, but hell this is twice the speed of IE at least!!

With Vista I just have one or two programs that decide to close when they shouldn't , or won't load properly, just like the old ME days ! Can't afford to upgrade to 7 just yet. There should be a free upgrade for anyone who was forced into buying this crap! If I could have waited for 7 to come out I would have but my old PC had just gone down to a crawl and needed a complete clean out so decided it was time for a new one.

When I had my computer built I insisted on running XP, I hated the idea of using Vista. Then when it was all done, it wouldn't work...

The guy who built it was a computer geek in military intelligence and he spent a week trying to sort the trouble out.

It turned out that the combo of an Intel tg33 motherboard with Radon HD 4600GT Pro graphics wasn't compatible with XP. So I could either loose the graphics or Gasp...
Use Vista (I wasn't about to give up my graphics with all that HD porn out there, lol)

I'm finally used to this digital diarrhea forced upon me and I'm afraid to switch again...

It's either Firefox or Opera to me now. If I wanted to again, I can bring back up Safari and use that too but that browser crashes more than Firefox does and Opera has occasional hiccups. I love my XP and until Vista officially replaces it, I'll stick with it. As for Windows 7, I'm scared to even receive the upgrade for that! :whew:

Did they ever get the bugs off the new Internet Explorers? I wanted to get IE8 but people were complaining of bugs then.

DEFINITELY not a free upgrade!

Just ordered my "free" upgrade from Acer's stooges - they obviously outsource their scams in a vain attempt to distance themselves from them.

No problem placing the order but the "free" upgrade was estimated at GBP12.78. A bit steep, I thought, can't possibly reflect real DVD, post and packing costs, but being British I'm used to being ripped off.

After placing the order, agreeing and giving my credit card details this is what I found on the confirmation page:

You will be charged GBP 21.42. The price shown is inclusive of shipping charges and administration fee for telegraphic transfer. This does not include the cost of wire transfer which your bank will charge you directly and the cost varies depending on the bank you have selected.

So all I know is that my supposedly free upgrade which I thought was going to cost GBP12.78 will now cost at least GBP 21.42 , and will probably cost a fair bit more by the time my bank has finished with me. Thank you Acer, you've now decided for me where I will NOT look for my next computer.

Actually you're right. I think I've been dissing Acer when the real culprit is MicroScam. It's beginning to look as if they all have to use the same third party with its own - erm - unique way of extracting money. Cleverly Acer don't call it a free upgrade - it's an "Upgrade Offer". It was the site that sold me the computer which called it that.

So if you're offered a Vista machine with an upgrade, beware - it may not be the bargain it seems.

Wow, I was really looking forward to the new Windows, considering how crappy Vista is, and now I'm already hearing negative experiences already. How disappointing, did you know that some banks have refused to use the now old Vista because it had so many problems? Sorry they held back, wouldn't want a few extra zeros to appear in my bank account. For now, my newest purchase of a netbook that uses a Linux created system is actually keeping me really happy. And no, I'm not talking about APPLE's OS.

Lots of critical articles in the press here now ..upgrades range from FREE if you have a Mesh but as much as £29 ( USD48 / Euro32 ) if you have the bad luck to own a Toshiba.
