Only for your information, the USSR finally colappsed in 1991, 1989 was the year the sattelite states had their little counter-revolutions.

Besides, comparing the USA with the USSR and predicting them to colapse as well is very unrealistic.
When you ask an US-American what nationality he has, he will always answer that he's US-American.
In the USSR, they still could tell if they are Russians, Latvians, Lithuanian or what Soviet Republic they originally came from. Even people that were forcd to move within the USSR still claimed being of their original nation and that's what causes the conflict between Russia and Georgia.

The reason America won't split is because it was formed naturally and by choice. The former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia - and to some extent Belgium - were manufactured and put together without consultation with the people. The states of America chose to join the union and wanted it.

As much as the SNP over here want Scottish independence it won't happen! They won't advocate a vote because they know they'd lose!! Once they lose that will be the end of their basic campaign, there will be nothing more for them to do, so they'll sit on it until they think the political climate is different.

There will be no WW3, nobody in their right mind will invade Iran, and Obama is not George Bush thank heavens! He, I would not doubt would go for it, but under the current political regime and the economic mess the world is in it's all talk.

I have to differ on that count; America was created by war, and not by choice, certainly not that of the native peoples. The west, including texas, new mexico, california, was once a part of Mexico before it was stolen in war, and has a vastly different culture. Same with Hawaii, which was an independant kingdom before the US government/united fruit corporation staged a coup. Also, given the history of the civil war that happened here, it is clear there are huge divisions. It would be spectacular if a few smaller nations were formed, and thus the US empire, the cia, and wall street could end completely.

And Obama certainly is equal to George Bush; if not much worse because he murders middle eastern children while giving pretty speeches. His administration and Israel are itching to attack Iran, who knows when they will.

If things get really bad they can conscript you into an army and hand you a gun... there are very few ways left of getting out if it. Once upon a time you could just camp up your interview and try to kiss a general or something and they would say you were 'perverse' and then you got to stay home, sowing soldier hats or polishing rockets instead!

But I suppose you adapt. Picture yourself with the army slacks and boots and a big machine in the middle of a war zone... most folks just shoot back, killing as many as they can. Who in their right mind would sign up for that.

Final thought: make one new rule about wars: whoever declares them has to fight on the front lines, or their children have to if old enough. Imagine Bush or Obama, or their daughters on the front lines... not on your nelly! No more wars then.

There is no draft right now, and I at least would participate in a large revolt of young people if there ever was one enstated. I'm not sure that would happen because it's more profitable to hire mercenaries. But if it came down to it, I am a pacifist (and dissenter against war, violence, and nationalism) and would object regardless of the consequences; I will never wear a uniform or hold a gun. Lots of people say that the children of the politicians should have to go to war, but I disagree with that; it is no ones fault that they were born to a rich or poor or powerful or oppressed person; the politicians, the old people (men and women) who are drooling for war themselves should definitely have to go, as well as the casino capitalists who profit. And once they are killed or confined to mental institutions due to PTSD, we could build something better.

Wait a minute texas, california and new mexico wasn't "stolen" as you say. There were wars, concessions and parts of those states were actually paid for. Some people in the territories..as it what they were since mexico had little control over them... wanted to be annexed others did not. At the very least Texas WANTED to be annexed into America. I've lived in Texas for two years, the climate there isn't so thick that it largely divided from the other states. I suspect you know the reason for the civil war so to expect such a rift to occur again would be nonsensical. Clearly the humanity of the African population is no longer questioned and neither is their right to be treated equally. I seriously doubt any war would cause America to split up...at least within contiguous states. Alaska is a bit out there both physically and mentally :rofl:!

I was surprised to read above that Russia would apparently want control of Alaska. But anyway, I do consider land taken via war to be stealing. There are secessionist movements in Texas, in California, in the south, in Hawaii, Alaska, and in some native american tribes. Whether it will happen or not is a guess, and it is only one possible solution to the many problems. The humanity of the Latino population is questioned by many racists here.

It is now known that the Mayans dispersed and intermingled with all the other peoples. You can tell descendants of the Mayans because the are shorter, have darker skin and have more of a round face than the European Mexicans.
The Europeans are taller and have a narrow face and lighter skin.
The Mayans knew they could not defeat the Europeans so rather than be annihilated, they intermingled.
Another reason we know this is there are NO mass graves of Mayans.
Graves have been discovered, but they were all typical. Nothing like you would find if there was a mass death from disease or war.

actually yea, the spanish conquistadors did indeed kill mayan people. Now you would be right to say they didn't kill the civilization itself but they damn sure crippled it. Yes Mayans still exist today, some stay and fight the present government under a mask. Others integrated into the spanish countries and some emigrated to united states. Speaking both their native tongue and spanish many are camouflaged in western clothing.
