I know this is really an international board but 9/11 has come and gone and i'm a little suprised no one has posted anything about it. Today in the US a lot a TV stations replayed their realtime broadcasts from 8 years ago and it brought me right back to the moment and (felt again) the total punch in the gut that it was....and I didn't know anyone who died that day but it still PISSES ME OFF like you wouldn't believe...so my question is?

Has 9/11 already gone into the "history" realm of world history? Like it's just something kids will read about in school even though it happened 8 years ago? Like to hear from some of my world buddies about this...

Peace!:x

We've had quite a lot of coverage over here, both on TV and in the press.

One programme shown last weekend was about all the last messages that were sent from the people trapped in the towers and was too heartbreaking to watch. I was reading a similar feature in a newspaper yesterday recounting some of those last phone calls.

Really unimaginable & tragic. I think if it was someone I knew talking to me and hearing all the debris collapsing in the background I'm not sure how I'd have ever got over that. Just hearing those stories is heartbreaking without even actually knowing anyone personally.

I remember the day as the day I lost 3 dear close friends...its not 911 to me...its the day my friends were killed...
its the day that my friend's unborn daughter...lost her father forever,
its the day that my friend's mom....never again came home from work,
its the day that my friend got on a plane...and never came back,

The day really means nothing, it just a marker for when great sadness entered the lives of many innocent people...who didn't deserve it....

RIP....John, Wendy, and Robert....

and Osama....the day is getting closer...the day you die and cease to be nothing...nothing at all.

I'm sorry to hear of your losses pump..lol

I didn't know anyone there...but I cant shake off my quilt at what my first reaction was when someone first told me that a tower was hit..I laughed!!! I don't know why i did, if i thought it was a joke or not, but it still bothers me to this day:( but when I realized it was all very real, it became surreal to me then, like i was in some fucked up dream...

but to your question, yes I think with anything time makes us loss sight of it eventually, and it will be just another part of history book:(

All things become history, but just like the two world wars, should never be forgotten, and that's why we remember every year!

This will be one such occasion.

I was visiting my dentist when this was happening and she had the tv on. At first of course we all thought it was a horrible accident. That's how I remember where I was when it happened!

Load of conspiracy theory/bible bashing propoganda in my opinion. Seen all that before!

And then there was God, a sadistic and selfish person/god/mighty something who likes watching the best show ever: the human race! Like someone said or written (can`t remember well but I think it was in Devil`s advocate) We`re just some ants in God`s ant farm ..or something similar.

All I know for sure is that I will never forget and never forgive. Most of all it has made me vigilant about any religious fundamentalists - what ever they call their so-called peaceful religions and the heavy books they use to beat others up with. I have become so much less tolerant of religious people and what ever influence they try to get in any society.
Every one here has become less tolerant of especially muslims - all the time we hear about some muslims sitting and making bombs and just waiting to kill the infidels - we need small underground armies and intelligence services watching certain muslim groups under a microscope all the time and we have incredible strict immigration rules. The war on (muslim) terror will rage for long long time. It is so sad and is a huge challenge to our worldview, humanity, personal freedom and values - but we have to in order not to live in fear - taking a plane, riding a train, bus or metro train everywhere. I for one will never bow my head ..... 911 was a sad wake up call and I will never again trust or believe any so-called peaceful religions to influence societies for any good - whether they be Christian, muslims or whatever. Never again.

Here's another idea , it's a line from an arty Australian movie from about 10 years ago, I forget the the name of. It was about a prison in the "near future" and starred Nick Cave.

The gist of the message was - "you release one prisoner so you can keep everyone else in prison"

That means you have to crack down to prevent a recurrance, in essence it's like Orwell's "1984" where we are told of all the evils threatening us so we have to conform to all the restrictions for our own good!

The Muslims have become like Hitler's Jews. A scapegoat to everything that is wrong. If we still had the attitude of the 1940s they'd be made to walk in the gutter on the side of the road.

This is wrong!!

There is intollerance on both sides, but not many Muslims want to kill, and don't let's forget the Klu Klux Klan - killing black people in the name of Christianity !!

Same thing we had here for years in Northern Ireland (you'll have to look that up, it's late!)

We have to live together and be together whatever our beliefs and prejudices.

The guilty are the ones who do the deed and want to continue, not the ones who had no part or interest in it !!

I ain't any liberal, but I like fairness !

I think it's all about the extremists, wherever they come from.
I know many Muslims who didn't condone what happened that horrible day and despised those terrorist acts.
Again, it's the extremists who think Islam one day will rule the world *rolls eyes*.

I remember that day watching CNN when the first tower was already in flames and saw live when the second planed crashed, my heart shivered when I saw people jumping off even though I was only 11. I still get that feeling everytime I see it on tv.

It's just disappointing the way this was used to invade Irak where more people kept dying, including american soldiers. And Osama was never found *shakes head*

9/11 certainly has come and gone, and I'd like to focus on the GONE part. From the very beginning, it was turned into a hateful, reactionary propaganda campaign that lead to the illegal invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, and increasing incursions into Pakistan, murdering and torturing millions of people who had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, which in my view is neither necessary nor worth it nor in keeping with international law. No amount of emotionalism can excuse what 9/11 was used for afterwards. It is also gross how negligent the government here still is about the huge amount of environmental pollution created by the destruction of the WTC towers, and how the volunteer workers and those who lived/worked in the thick chemical soot left over are still suffering terrible health problems with no public assistance or compensation.

Religion is also a red herring; the issue is more clearly that people can only logically look at US foreign policy for the last 50 years and see it as being openly hostile and exploitative to the people in the middle east, as is currently seen in Afghanistan, where innocent people have their houses randomly blown up by the US military with their entire family inside, and thus they become "insurgents" but it has nothing to do with religion just a game of cause and effect and one which is still being traveled down through the barrel of a gun. The ceo of blackwater, the worlds largest mercenary army, has openly stated he sees himself as a crusader, fighting a holy war against islam; against a couple of desperately poor countries that don't even have public schools. So we might look at religion there, as well as that of bushites, but still religion doesn't explain or excuse.

Great post X! We're ALL intolerant to some extant but most of us want fairness (for everyone) so how do we know what's best? I hate the extremists' that attacked the US on 9/11 but I don't hate all muslims because of it! Sweets is a muslim by religion but I consider him a brother and a friend on this board...so who's the winner?

This is what I know to be fact..

The towers were designed to withstand crashes from much larger aircraft than the 767's that hit them

The towers fell faster than the speed of gravity...

The towers were leased to a private corp. 6 weeks before 9/11...

The towers needed millions of dollars in repairs and asbestos removal...

The man who leased the towers had a $2Billion insurence policy against terrorist attack...

He sued the insurance company (and won) for $4 billion, claiming that becaues two planes struck the towers it was two attacks...

In his lease agreement he gets the contract to rebuild if the towers are ever destroyed...

George Bush's brother was in charge of security for the towers...

3 days before 9/11 there was a "power down" in which all security was taken off line...

for several weeks prior unknown workers were seen bringing in spools of wire, Communications upgrade was the reason given...

Building 7 (the one that was brought down as a precaution) housed all the records for the on going ENRON investigations...

These are just a few of the facts...

Here is what I believe, Intelligence knew of a pending attack far in advance, the powers that be decided that instead of preventing it, the could use it for their own gain.

By engineering the fall of the towers to coincide with the terrorist attack, they could blame it all on the terrorist while at the same time destroying all the evidence from ENRON, thus getting the cases dismissed and using the fear generated by such an act push through legislation (Patriot Act anyone?) that would further increase the power of the U.S. government...

All in all, the whole purpose of 9/11 was to help criminals who defrauded American citizens out of over $90 billion and make the powerful even more powerful...

His younger brother Marvin Bush, I think is his name. And it wouldn't be difficult to set the charges to be detonated by the planes impact...

Also when they excavated the basement they found that the support beams had chevron shaped cuts (burned through actually) and residue of thermeite, a compound that creates intense heat and cuts through steel like butter, the same method used in controlled demolitions...

There are thousands of sources, everything from youtube videos, to BBC financial news reports, but mostly from studying the footage of the towers as they collapsed, interviews with people who worked there and made it out, videos taken in the aftermath at ground zero, etc...
