Are we aware that G00gle knows everything we do here?

Hi,
I was looking for some specific picture sets the other day using G00gle. The search term "fz_kyril" almost only has search results on GH. After that, I tried to g00gle a random name from a GH forum user that seemed unique enough. Many search results point back to this site (as well some other gay sites). You can possibly find each single post by a specific user.

Is that really what we want? Keeping in mind the fact that G00gle and other sites cache everything? Is this just my personal paranoia? Or would it be better to display threads only for registered users - and keep search engines out that way?

With a today's developed technology I bet Google knows even our IPs which means it practically knows everything about us, perhaps even our very personal data like name, address, maybe even credit cards. For example everything what you send via gmail is readable by Google. Each and every word. Have you ever noticed the ads on the right side there? How they change according to what your wrote to your boyfriend for example?

So I stick to the rule not to use any personal data, not even in private conversations over email. Of course noone (except computers) really reads this data, but the fact is that this data is stored and ready to be analyzed if needed at any time - that's scary - even if you're not a criminal. I mean you don't have to be a criminal for not liking Google's spying on you. Privacy is a basic human right.

I'm one who couldn't care less :p

If the authorites wanted to they can track every movement you've made throughout the day, probably even know what you bought for dinner in Sainsburys! I'm long past caring about any of that stuff.

Why? I have nothing to be worried about if people want to read my wafflings or study what must be a pretty boring daily routine to watch, and I personally live in a tollerant area of the world, no harsh regime and I'm now old enough that it no longer matters much to me.

Predominately though, it's because I'm not paranoid and laugh mostly at conspiracy theories. I have no doubt you'll tell me of some evil forces at work ready to imprison the whole of the planet but somehow I doubt it :p

As long as they leave me my ciggies anyway :))

Well if you write a letter to a friend you use an envelope, do you? Well I hardly believe that you wouldn't care if some stranger opened it before it would reach the right address. I'm sure we're all sensitive about that when it comes to regular mail. So why would anyone have a right to spy on our electronic mail? This is how I see things.

I believe I'm an adult who needs no supervision. And I believe no-one has a right to supervise me without my knowledge (like my ISP for example or Google as a matter of fact). I mean wouldn't it make you uncomfortable if somebody peeked over your shoulder at your screen?

I don't agree with logic that if you have nothing to hide, then everybody has a right to monitor you. I believe none of us really owe anybody a justification why we wish to remain unobserved. I like my privacy in a bathroom and I like it on a web. It is a human right.

I was not meaning I agree with it !! Far from it, I just don't worry about it too much.

It's always been said, e-mail is an equivalent of a post card and can be read by anyone. Nothing that you've ever done on the net has been private.

If you worry too much about having privacy infringed you'd never leave the house or even have a phone installed!

I agree with you. I also don't worry too much, but I still do care about this issue. Privacy has always been a sensitive issue in human society - not only in internet era. Fortunately the legislation in many countries is quite good in protecting people's privacy. However it's never good enough in this area and it needs constant updating. When it comes to human rights I believe this is the thing which has never been generously given as a gift to people. It was the thing which needed constantly to be fought for. So I believe it can't be bad being little bit concerned about these things.

Hello,
I'd like to comment on some of the things that were said.

1.) "I live in a free country, so why bother?"
The case Integritas0 brought up is a good example. And what is the definition of a free country? We all know that things can change very quickly. Even the so-called "land of the free" jailed people that were suspicious to share the wrong political ideas in the McCarthy era.

2.) The internet evolved this way, we can't help it
Why should we accept this and not take precautions? It's not that I'm asking to make this place 100% secure. What I'm asking for wouldn't hinder any member of this site to access the contents - it would just keep the crawlers out. Besides: we have the rule to use anonym.to for each link we post here, because we don't want to expose where this site refers to. On the other hand, GH includes g00gle-analytics scripts, which among other functions track websites and their referrers (unless you tell your browser not to - for more information about g00gle-analytics check wikipedia).

Thanks to all who posted useful comments. I do accept other opinions.

Honestly, I was somewhat aware of this, and because of the position that I have with my professional career, I can't afford to post a face pic of myself on the forum. Needless to say, I can remember being approached about a Myspace page that I had and the pics that I had posted on the page that was not nude pics, but there was some where I was in underwear, or jeans revealing pubes,..and I would have never guessed at that time that someone would have found that page due to the fact that I did not use my original name..

Well I'm sure most of us know all this. I might have mentioned before that a friend of a friend was invited into a city security area and was shown as an example how a person could be tracked, the streets walked, the shops they went in etc etc.

Now if you sit up nights worrying about who knows things about you you'll never be able to sleep. Basically, so what! There is nothing you can do about it, and all civilisations have had their own ways of controlling its citizens. We just have different technology.

You could even be tracked if you lived on a remote hillside somewhere far away!

Now I suggest you close the curtains, switch off the power and make sure your door is boarded up :p

Enjoy life, I do ;)

Too much data accumulated. They can use it only statistically not personally , unless major crime is involved.
