Has anyone had their internet connection blocked for trying to download copyrighted material yet or heard of anybody who has? I had this happen recently - although I believe it was a hoax - but it seemed all too real. The screen went to a very official looking site something about SBC and the FBI... anyway for 200.00 you could get back your connection. I called SBC and got back on but I was more than just nervous at first.

Sounds like a hoax to me. Have you picked up malware or was it a site you tried to visit?

That sounds like you were attacked by malware, or your ISP was. Do you have up to date AV? And if so, when is the last time you did a full scan?

That's a ransomware, also known as Ukash malware.

Thanks for your responses - I did run my antivirus scan in safe mode after the fact and it picked up 3 items. I don't think McAfee was that good at malware so I just got malwarebytes and ran a scan which got rid of 5 items. So, hopefully in good shape now although still a little gun shy.
Oh yeah - I got it trying to download a clip from a different forum - it was odd because it did not let me go through the process at first then the screen went to the scam screen - strange think I should have suspected something at first was not thinking.

As a matter of interest - do you browse with IE? If so, the best thing you could do to improve your online security is switch to Chrome or FireFox.
