Quite right! Let the people have a say and tell us if they want in or out.

If the EU is afraid of democracy, then the EU is not worth having!

The EU is a multi-lateral organisation run by the countries that make it up. Citizens vote for the governments who run the EU.

The only reason it is like this is because most nations are too nationalistic to contemplate a true union, one where we cut out the middle-man.

It's not that the EU is afraid of democracy, its that most of the countries are too stuck in the past to allow the EU to evolve into the true union, and true democracy, it should be.

Yes, like Mrs. Thatcher for example.

I mean it's funny: Britain never could decide if they want to be a part of the EU and now they have opted for Out and still can't decide.

@yorkie: I guess Cameron has provoked some that reaction with this speech in the first place.

http://anonym.to/http://www.nytimes...ope/david-cameron-speech-transcript.html?_r=1

He treated it as an ordinary inner-issue of the UK. "Ok, let's wait till the next regular(!) meeting of the Toires, which will be in... ahm... October, is that right? Till then nothing happens." That's not the way I would treat neighbours and friends.

It is not a case of waiting until the next normal meeting. The government party has to select then vote for a new leader who is also the Prime Minister. It has been announced today the new leader will be in place by September 2nd. Political parties here all have procedures for electing a new leader and electing one who then is our new Prime Mimister you must agree takes some time.Belgium went months without a government and Spain is still in deadlock after two elections.Surely we should be given some time.

(...) Surely we should be given some time.

Yes, of course. That's very understandable.

I only meant that Cameron has made some very poor choice of words. ... which is not that unsual. Failing politicians always do that - wanting to stay in office etc. pp. till someone comes along and says "don't think so".

If he had said "This is a task for the next PM, we will start the process of finding him/her next week and I ask for understanding" I'm sure it would have been different because that would be understandable.

But in another thread you said "Tuesday is the day".

You are u-turning and becoming a lot more reasonable? :p

Jeremy Corbyn to face no-confidence vote as Labour rebellion builds

Despairing mood at PLP meeting as leader names new shadow cabinet members while protesters outside voice support

Jeremy Corbyn will face a vote of no confidence in his leadership on Tuesday after a motion was put forward at a meeting of angry Labour MPs where he faced repeated calls to resign.

At a packed meeting of the parliamentary Labour party, Corbyn faced down critics by unveiling a list of new shadow cabinet members and insisting he planned to lead Labour into the next general election.

After losing 20 members of his shadow cabinet and a series of other frontbenchers in a dramatic coup attempt that began over the weekend, Corbyn was barraged at the meeting in scenes described by one MP as “going wild”.

There is the whole of Europe on its feet, one crisis summit hunts the next. Hundreds of thousands fear for their jobs. Millions of Euros are beeing wiped out. And what are doing those which are beeing to blame for this mess? Little or nothing. The Brexit-fighters are cowering away, replacement for Premier Cameron will come not before autumn. Entirely ambiguous if and when London will apply for the EU-exit. That's not a nice way!

I think it would be the least they could do to limit the damage which they have caused.

I was quoting someone else you know and reacting to the impertience of the British PM.

And now I was talking to yorkie. I'm sorry if it confused you.

I also said that there will be 350 million pounds per week for the health system. That wasn't true either. Sorry.

Watched Nigel Farage in the European Parliament today and that man has no grace or charm and his triuphant tone was way off the mark.I hope he has no say in the coming negotiations.I'm afraid Herr Juncker is not much better and I hope he is not involved in the talks.Apparently the Treaty of Lisbon gives a period of 2 years for exit negotiations and both sides seem to think that may be optimistic to get a settlement.Until then we are still members paying our contributions and fellow EU citizens have full freedom of movement rights to come and live here and any that chose to do so I welcome.
If we punch each other in the face we both end up with broken noses not quite as catchy as "turkeys voting for christmas" but just as true.I voted to remain as did 48% of my countrymen so please don't blame us all but as I said in my first post I have to accept my view lost.

Agreed, he stands there and says he hopes for a grown-up and sensible attitude then almost in the same breath insults them. Wrong, wrong, wrong! The "divorce-settlement" is going to be difficult enough without stuff like this.
