Cool!

Thanks for the little look into your techie life!

I feel so non-nerdy now - there aren't nearly as many computers in my place, even though everything thinks there are too many regardless :)

I wish I could should you our new data centre in work though - we went from 3rd world conditions to the best of the best in one go - the hardly know ourselves anymore!

No more racing to the server room when the power goes to shut everything down in the 15-20 mins the UPSes gave us, and no more dragging UPSes around the server room floor in a desperate attempt to keep critical servers up for just a few more minutes while they finish vital stuff like payroll etc! Instead we now have a room-wide UPS and our own generator, so the room UPS just has to hold the data centre up for the 1-2 mins it takes for the generator to fire up. It sounds mad, but the new data centre changed our lives! (yes, we are nerds :) )

Want the worst? This is only the apartment's network... there's another one in my house away of Toronto that takes half the 4 cars garage LOL, however the ones in Toronto is the core network, while the one at home is storage and backups

I hate to think what your electricity bill must be like :)

I guess you don't need central heating though - you have Intel Powered heating :)

Well at the Appartment the electric bill is close to zero... it's included... at home yeah 200 per month would be pretty much it LOL and yes it's so nice in winter because we really really really don't have to heat at all. It's All Dell, Intel, HP, IBM powered

Those darn UPSes, you know that as much as they are suppose to save a lot of bucks by giving a certain laps of time for you to shutdown servers, they can as well be part of a huge problem. Few times ago I had all this beautiful small network on upses, had about 10 upses of different caliber depending of the station they were serving. Dude I lost so much HDD because when the upses would start buzzing like a crazy bitch that they are, it would give you 15 minutes to shutdown the whole computer properly to which sometimes 15 minutes is not enough. With 10 upses refreshing at different period of time it would quite often make the jumpers blow and another drive yet to replace.

Since I removed all upses and installed a mighty solar powered alternative power generator sitting on my balcony (was built on demand by one of my good engineer friend) I have no more problems at all, if the power goes down the power generator takes over and it can make the whole system runs for hours (so far on battery and solar I've been able to run the whole network for 4 hours consecutively)... not just a matter of 15 minutes.

Can I see your wallpaper jakey ??

I guess still living with my rents and with my computer accessible to others, I don't have the luxury of putting hot semi naked guys as my wallpaper.

Which wallpaper you want to see? Because if it's the one of the dude that is projected on the wall, the dude is no one else than my OZ dude Alex... you can see him in the private section.

Have you got a pic of your Solar Set up?

I would be interested to see what that looks like as I have a solar set up in my back garden. I posted info on it here http://www.gayheaven.org/t198164-doing-my-bit-solar-project.html

Im just about to buy another two solar panels, but just not sure where to put them!

Well I normally don't put dudes as a background pics... because one get tired pretty quick but I never get tired of looking at Alex :p so it's the best background pics for me. And having him half naked leaves place for imagination even though I saw him naked one too many times LOL

Since this thread has already split in several different directions, I thought I'd throw this in for those interested in solar power.

The LifePort Solar Carport...

Generates around 4.8 Kiolwatts per hour, or enough to power the average 3,000sq.ft. home. Cost $46,000, but that doesn't include tax incentives which can deduct up to $20,000 from the price...

Good when I'll go home this weekend I'll take the pictures of our pool heating system... yep it's solar...the best way to heat the water or freeze it a little... now I need to find a way to use Alex's hotness and use that energy for good LOL
