I want to settle this once and for all. A few people on another website keep saying I"m weird cause I won't date someone twice my age (I'm 25) Is there anything wrong with that? They say that I "Hate old people" which is not true cause many of my friends are older guys and girls.

Listen I think people can date whoever they want to and if someone wants to date someone much older than them that's fine but if someone is 20 and isn't interested in someone who is 40 or 50 then I think there's nothing wrong with that.

What do you think are people who won't date someone twice there age being ageist???

I wonder how many of these are older and like the idea that every 25 year old wants to jump into bed with them!

Course it's not ageist , at 25 I doubt I'd have fancied dating a 50 year old however many older friends and aquaintances I had. It's a personal taste, as in all things !

No.

Personal preference does not make an -ism!

Some people find big age differences a turnoff, that's their right, and it's utterly unfair to have a go at them for it, just like it would be unfair for people to have a go at people who do like older/younger partners.

Hmmm, I don't want to date them, I want to cuddle with and screw around with them. I find older hot. But I don't want to go out on dates with them.

i have a lot of older friends and i actually enjoy being around older people mainly because in general they have seen and done more things in life than i have. plus they are not so much having a relation with you because your hot or because your of certain quality anymore. just different mindset.

having said that, i don't mind dating someone who is 3,4,5 or even 10 years older than me but to date someone who is double my age, then yeah maybe i have to twink twice about it because dating someone who is double my age makes me feel i am dating my own father

Yes see I have many friends who are twice my age but I always get these 40-50 year old's getting mad at me cause I turn them down for being twice my age. Its like excuse me for having preferences. I know a few older men who like people their own age and are like forget the twinks give me a "real man" not that a twink isn't a real man but anyways. Yeah it just frustrates me.

Off course it doesn't make you an ageist. I don't like to date somebody twice my age either and I'm 23. But I have friends who are much older than me. So I'm clearly not an ageist.

I don't care anymore if somebody accuses me of being an ageist.

It depends... Most ppl wouldnt bat an eyelid if they saw an 18 year old with a 36 year old...
but a 35 year old with a 70 year old would probably raise a few eyebrows.
I dont personally have an issue with it- whatever rocks your boat. Only thing is the chances of someone twice your age having the same way of thinking are low. Lucky you if you find a soulmate however old they are :)

The only thing I get reminded of is Hugh Heffner and the playboy bunnies :worried:

i set no limits on who i would date or even have sex with -- if its dating and you fall in love with that person and he falls in love with you you are looking at in in an emotional way and you cant help who you fall in love withif you go out here looking for love then you cant help who your heart yearns for--a friend of mine married his girlfriend he was 19 she was 36 and they been together since he was 14 and people say they wont last but thats been 10 yrs ago and three kids so if you go out looking for love and you turn a guy down for any reason other than emotional then its not love you are looking for but what you picture yourself with and who you want to make that person into what you want him to be and not love him for who he is if you are 25 and dont think a 50 yr old is sexy and hot its your perrogative but dont think that if a 25 yr old falls in love with a 50 yr old is wrong because the way you think isnt how everyone should think

Why is this even a question? You like what you like and that's it. If some fool tries to guilt-trip you into bed, that's their problem. Frankly, it's pathetic. (Written by someone more than twice your age.)

That could be a problem...

Seriously, though, because you refuse to date something twice your age doesn't make you an ageist. It's just a matter of preference, nothing more, nothing less. :)

You should turn it around and ask them why they're looking for someone half their age. :thumbs up: If they think you're ageist, then so are they.

I am afraid that for me it is the same. Don't know if there are many hot boys of 130 years of age. If there are, maybe we could change a wheelchair into a hot-rod!

Normally I wouldn't bother asking but I've had a few people say that I am "ageist" and I was just wondering what other people thought. Wanting to hear multiple sides to it.

Age is just a number, you should base who you like by if they are a good person or not!

I was wondering the same thing. Are they older guys? Sometimes I feel like that "some" not all but some older guys say things like this only cause their frustrated that a much younger guy turned them down for being much older.

I know a few older men who like people their own age and are like forget the twinks give me a "real man"

Comments like that are ageist and sexist; implying that young people are inferior for not living up to their gender roles. Simply having a preference doesn't make one ageist, but if people need to articulate them via such insults, then perhaps they are.

I've dated someone twice my age, but not because I saw them walking down the street and thought they were really hot; I got to know them and found we shared a great deal beyond age.

I like dating older men. They are experienced, knowledgeable do not play games and not into drama. And of course, the best of all, they really know all about sex
