George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars has sold his company to Disney and they immediately announced to make more Star Wars movies. I'm very glad that I'm not a Star Wars fan...

As one film critic said on the radio today, he's dreading it as he'll have to watch them :))

Never liked it from the beginning, but for those who do enjoy it this'll kill it off and give it bad memories by the time the last pale vestige of it has been released.

Hehe, As a scifi-lover I somehow like Star Wars though it never really got me. Just like with the "new Star Trek", which turned out to be now nothing more than an ordinary action movie. I like the old Trek (except ENT) but find the new one simply boring. Here, when they have to earn 4 Billion $ it'll be even worse.

I was a baby when they first came out but I remember watching them on TV as a kid in the 80s. I have to say then something went wrong and Lucas got greedy. He refused any more TV airings and instead kept them exclusive the VHS and DVD. The franchise started to milk. So a whole generation missed out on these films. Then when the prequels launched he had them back on TV but I think they had lost a lot of their charm by then and the prequels had lost the edge of the originals and sci-fi had moved on a lot since then.

I'm pleased that Disneynnow has the rights to these. I hope these movies are good. I think Lucas has lost his edge. I hope they allow other writers and directors to come in expand the Star Wars universe. The originals were ballsy and pioneering and that spirit has been lost a little. Maybe a Star Wars reboot is in order?

George Lucas promised us a trilogy of trilogies - 9 movies and it may have been a condition of the sale that Disney makes the last 3. There is great story potential here for writers with imagination and a whole galaxy to play with. I just wonder whether it's possible to come up with a framework for 3 great new movies and make one of them by 2015. I'd bet not.

well the general plot for the third trilogy exists, there's Lucas's original ideas, plus the books to go off of.

I liked the original 3 star wars films, but Lucas killed the "new" 3, I'm sure Disney is capable of doing better than those..

You're right, he wanted to make nine films at first. But then Lucas always said he didn't want to make the last three. He had put the story of the nine films into the six films anyway. I don't believe there was such a condition.

There is great story potential here for writers with imagination and a whole galaxy to play with. I just wonder whether it's possible to come up with a framework for 3 great new movies and make one of them by 2015. I'd bet not.

I expect them all to be worse than Episode 1. :D

Disney is a cash cow, obtaining Marvel and hiring superfan Joss Whedon to do the story. I am sure they will do the same with this series. I mean if you want more $$ you draw in the fans and you make them want more by giving them what they want. They will make sure its right, I mean the Avengers was bad ass! Good luck to them I will be at the Premiere of Episode 7!

I'm looking forward to seeing this new Star Wars movie, I love:heart: the entire trilogy from the beginning so much especially Episode 3, got them all on Dvd but how can they make another film when Darth Vader was killed after he threw aka killed his master the Emperor Palpatine who his also known as Darth Sidious overboard from the balcony of his spaceship ( video shown below) to save his son Luke from getting killed? and the way that episode 6 "Return of the Jedi" ended with the cast getting all together and celebrating ( video shown below ) i thought that was how the story ended and that there will be no more episode movies left to make since there is no more evil guys, I wonder what story timeline these new movies will show all of us, Maybe they will show how it was in the ancient times? since they premiered each episode back to front

as i recall mr lucas planned on making nine episodes, he said so in 1977 when the first movie was released. Episodes 7,,8 and 9 would deal with the offspring of Han and Leia and also the cloning of the emperor.

Thanks toetke1:heart: for letting me know this information my friend, I didn't know he said he planned to make 9 episodes when the first movie was released, I wasn't born in 1977, i was born 1987 and thanks once again for letting me know what eps 7,8 and 9 would deal with, looks like this new movie is going to be really stupid:(, hopefully Disney will make it more better since most of there movies they make is good.

Cuteprince101,

a lot has changed since 1977, and mr lucas made a lot of changes in the trilogy, especially the first one, for good or worst, that is for you to decide. I think it made the trilogy bad.He screwed up return of the jedi with that whole silly musical number.
I also think now that disney is the new owner of the franchise, they will probably go with a new story, sort of a reboot. But only the future will tell.

It's my understanding that episodes 7,8,&9 will deal with the rebuilding of the Republic and take place about 20 years after the events in Return Of The Jedi...

P.S. What everyone seems to miss is the brilliance of this transaction. After all the shit that Lucas got for the botched job on episodes 1 - 3, he swore that he was done with Star Wars. By selling out to Disney, he gets to keep his word and still see his stories come to life without taking the blame if it blows ass. And the icing on the cake is he just made $4 billion off the movies before they are even filmed...

i guess he needed the money

I heard on a news story last night that George Lucas will donate the entire proceeds from this sale to charity. I hope that is true!

Personally, I enjoyed the series, but wonder if we have seen too much already. Disney usually does a great job with its movies, so I guess there is hope.

It is interesting that I read somewhere a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, that Harrison Ford said he would never make another Star Wars, but would do another Raiders in a hearbeat! I guess even he felt enough was enough!
