News Update

Kevin Rudd our Former PM won the challenge in the Leadership ballot against Julia Gillard by 57 to 45 votes, Congradulations to Mr Rudd :) but I still haven't decided if I should vote for his government The Australia labour party again or someone else's , but I'll have to wait and see what he does next for our country from now to our election day which I think he will call an August election.

Here is a direct link to the live coverage of the whole leadership spill that took place in our nations capital Canberra today this evening

Can you trust an evangelical Christian? I can't. Already there is fall-out with Labor representatives resigning as they can't work under his autocratic style. So many of these religious people beleive they can behave as they will as God is on their side, just see what's goping on in Turkey.

Voting always strikes me as the basic precondition for having any right to complain about anything that happens afterwards - you don't vote, keep quiet and suck it up...

Not voting can also be a statement. Of course one can complain about a somenthing he doesn't like without getting involved with it's procedures. I count that too as a statement if somebody goes out infront-off of the parlamentary house and votes with rock:rofl:

Every informed citizen needs to vote. If you are not informed, stay home!

True, lucky in my country we vote with a red pencil, you vote for the person you like by putting a "red dot" in front of his/her name.

If you do not like any of the candidated you are free to make a drawing or put some comment on the voting paper.

By doing so your vote will registered as "not valid vote" and it is better to do that then to stay home.

We have a multi party system here (unlike USA and UK), today there are I think 11 parties represented in the house of parlement.

After the election boxes close all votes (all valid and non valid) will be counted and used to give the right number of seats to the different parties, yet the people who just stay home their votes are NOT counted.

Maybe it is a statement but it is not a vote, violence can never rule over democraty... (al least that is the idea:p )

In Australia voting is compulsory for federal and state elections, so I always vote. It's a good way to let the government(s) know how you feel about their performance.

If everyone would have voted in 2000 and 2004, we would not be in the mess we are in today.

If you don't vote, don't complain about the problems.

And if you Americans don't vote in 2014, we'll be in an even deeper hole.

I vote in all levels of elections, but as I get older I realize that it really makes no difference. Politicians are all the same. It's very rare that in western democracies we elect someone who actually puts the needs of their constituents ahead of their own.

I always vote because even though I am disillusioned with most political parties, I'm disillusioned with some less than others. You also never know when some fairly major shift can happen in politics or when a result will be very close and your vote could be part of that.

Its a question of what to do when there is a vast majority that will not try to change things, so all you can do is vote with the best intentions and for the best pragmatism and sanity, which is hard to say when considering these candidates.

I became eligible to vote when my family was living in Singapore which is effectively a one-party state with harassment of political opposition fairly widespread. That experience has taught me never to take democratic rights just for granted. I do vote in elections and here in Europe, you do have a much wider choice of parties to vote for than is perhaps the case in the US. I also prefer to live under a parliamentary system and not a Presidential system.
