Ok, so I will watch it... until I have to go to bed. I have to get up at 5am tomorrow... look Vasilis, Anke just greeted you... I cannot imagine that anybody else in Australia is watching the show... ;)

Hi Smallsleepyrascalcat

Thankyou for your kind comments my friend but I'm a little bit confused:? here who is Anke ? because i don't remember anyone greeting me my friend and apparently only half the country in Australia is watching the show and we haven't seen the finals yet until tonight my friend.

I thought you had it live, but then again, there wouldn't be much audience I suppose if it was. "Only" half ! That's quite a sizeable percentage !

Hi Xman101

Thankyou for your kind comments my friend No apparently the show is broadcasted and splited into 3 parters here in Australia started on Friday which was Semi Final 1 and on Saturday was Semi Final 2 and tonight the finals will be shown here on our tv station SBS in 30 minutes time which is a shame because i wanted to watch it and figure out on who will win the contest this year but now I already know who won it before watching the finals tonight and another reason why only half of our country Australia watches it because the football is shown around the same time as the contest is broadcast on television and a majority of our viewers are watching the football game then the contest and I'm more of a music and soccer person than a football person but i do watch the football from time to time.

and by the way Congratulations Azerbaijan :) and another disappointment:( for me is that now I'm actually sad:( and upset:( that Sweden didn't win the contest:thinking: i thought that song "popular" was beautiful and I wanted that song to be a winner because that song and artist deserved to win the contest this year.

Azerbaijan won wow either i have a serous hearing problem or europe has one don't get me wrong it's a catchy song but Nikki serious needs to get some more singing lessons.
I also suspect by the results of my favorites i'm out of touch with todays music.
Serbia, Romania and Lithuania ended on 14th,17th and19th place. Serbia should have done the english version of their song in english its sweet in serbian the song sounds harsher and she also could use more singing lesson

Anke Engelke, the better female host.
She was greeting the viewers in Australia.

Btw, here's a fun fact: Anke Engelke is the German voice of Marge Simpson. She succeeded the late Elisabeth Volkmann in season 17.

An American following Eurovision...

Usually, the acts I really like don't do so hot. Last year, I thought that the I's had it- Ireland (Niamh Kavanaugh), Iceland (Hera Bjork), Israel (Harel Skaat- hot and gay!), and then my fave, Slovakia (Kristina Pelakova). This year I was partial to Hungary (Kati Wolf), Serbia (Nina), Spain (Lucia Perez), and the really cute opera singer singing in Corsican for France.

I sorta avoided the Eurovision this year because I just wasn't in the humour - it's just not the same without Terry Wogan's exquisite sarcasm :)

I have to say though - I would have expected Jedward (the Irish entry) to have a bigger following on this forum, and I also kinda thought they'd win since their complete zany madness seems perfectly suited to the Eurovision!

I don't think anyone sees it as a serious song contest - right? It is just a spectacle I think?

The trouble with Eurovision is that every now and then it throws up a real talent. ABBA of course is the primary example.

I didn't watch it this year but I did catch a clip of the winning song. The intro and the early part of the song sounded quite interesting - by the time the song was over it had settled down into something a bit more formulaic and a bit soppy, but it still wasn't too bad, especially by the standards of what gets on the current pop charts. I certainly preferred it to the UK entry.

I think if entrants are going to perform in English they should work on their enunciation. There were some odd vocal gymnastics in "Running Scared" that detracted from the song a little for me. Otherwise I don't see why they can't perform in their native language; Europe is a multilingual place after all.
