I now have the time to spend with my cats and time to donate to different charities that need help, my current one of choice is a cat bottle feeding rescue center.

You're a wonderful soul. I sincerely wish there were more people like you...

Just wanna say thank you for what you do. Keep doing the good work! ;)

Hm.. Whether I get kids or not, a partner or not, I've been saving up for years to have a long and comfortable retirement on my own terms. I don't ever want to be an unnecessary burden on someone else, and after having once lived on almost nothing while unemployed I never want to come close to that again.

I'm in my mid-40s and I worry about growing old. Not having anyone there for me when I get older. No friends or anyone to depend on. I guess what makes it bad is that I have a hard time making friends and I don't see that changing anytime soon. What really scares me about growing older is the loneliness and the fact I'll probably be alone in those last years.

It's hard to make close friends, that is true. But all social contacts are valuable, for example work, neighbours, people hanging around you (neighbours etc.), relatives and people centered around some activities.

I don't know your life situation, you are expert in that area. You could try some hobbie related courses or courses hanging around your interests. People can't find you if you are not out there. If you have problems socialising (nervousnes, anxiety etc.) you should search for help. Even from online you can find tips on how to start improving yourself.

And if you means by being alone in the sense 'without partner', well many people are alone without partner. Many widows don't never re-marry etc. but they can still live happy lives. If you think something is wrong or missing in your life, it's good, it tells you what you need to drive up to change. And there are problems in all of our lives, so don't focus purely on them, focus on the good also, find enjoyment where you usually get it.

You are still young enough to somehow get out and make friends. I would suggest donating some time to a charity that you support. I think that is a great way for people with anxiety to meet new people as they will be so happy for the help they will go out of there way to make you feel welcome. Animal rescue groups are a great place to look as well as helping out at a food pantry. Animal charities seem to attract a lot of Gay people also. I am in my late 60's and I see a lot of seniors around and the loneliness is devasting. I strongly suggest the idea of looking for a partner as it sure makes life so much better. Relationships take work but the rewards are worth it.

I have compassion for anyone lonely & anxious, but I am gonna throw a caution to the wind & recommend meditation as a refuge from fear of aging, but firstly I feel optimistic because previous generations have not benefited from the connected world we enjoy now, the ability to reach out or search out to others for information or companionship is an amazing lifeline. Next I want to stress.... Not to stress..... Lol.
Our minds can torture us if we blindly follow every thought and succumb to their often negative emotionally inducing dissatisfaction. Join a meditation group locally or online & enjoy guided meditation with others, it helps tame the unruly habitual self-referential negative mind.

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, but i feel anyone struggling needs to know that they can help themselves. I hate newage gobbledy gook that encourages magical beliefs, but a good friend who is undergoing cancer treatment recommends this author so I have no hesitation to forward this link with thanks to - qb:D Today's consumer culture isn't focused on the immaterial aspects of being a conscious entity in a human body, which means we can be out of balance with our expectations if we disregard our essential nature.

Meditation is great for anxiety and it has huge amount health benefits. But aging "crisis" is a part of growth. There are things in life that you shouldn't escape from, cause after going through crisis succesfully you know yourself better, your values may have changed or strenghtened etc. Meditation can give you good little break, if you need one.
