It is utterly important that there is a word for being gay etc. Yes, it may be not very precise (like most words describing human behaviour are) but we need to communitcate. We have to name things. And I'm very happy to have that word so I could tell my parents in another way than "HEY, no grandchildren for YOU and YOU!" or "I want a girlfriend without boobs" to my friends. And no, I would not have liked to marry woman to enjoy a cock just now and then in a world where "gays" don't exist.

By the most typical concept of "gay", I do not find sexual attraction to women at all. I only find sexual attraction to guys. Seemed fairly simple to me.

I too am very happy with and proud of the word gay; it's not just about sex or "private sexual things," it's also about romance, about who I share my life with, who's hand I hold on the sidewalk, what kind of art I like, my political views etc. I don't idealize some homophobic, closet-society where everyone pretends to be straight while hiding who they really are.

As society becomes more open and tolerant, that doesn't mean that people will no longer by gay, bi, asian or black, etc; these identities don't 'melt' into a pot, they remain and we still have to acknowledge and talk about them, not swing the closet door back shut and pretend they aren't there, or desperately try to 'pass' as straight as as not to offend homophobes who lie that they "don't care" in order to avoid the subject.

I am gay and having the word, the "box" is great for me. I fit in that box.

But these boxes are transient. Race is a box. With the great migration of "races", and the intermarrying, it's a box whose sides are sagging.

I don't think we know about the future of the sexual boxes. As the constraints and taboos fade away, we may see a very different mix.
