It depends on the person and the cirstances. But 99.9999% of the time I'd tell the person to piss off. And if I was feeling sarcastic, I'd probably say, 'I love me too.'

thanks as a response maybe lame but other than saying 'i love you too', I'd rather say thanks to that person. Whether I like him or love him or hate him would make my response sincere or sarcastic.

With my boyfriend, I always say,

"What did you say? couldn't hear you." That way I get to hear it twice. --

Then of course, "I love you, too."

I always found that funny. I guess it depends on your definition of Love. I love my friends in my own way but maybe not in the way they define love. If someone starts shooting I would tell them to hit the deck but I'm not trying to take a bullet for them, I think that is where I would draw the line and I wouldn't go to jail for them either. I think a lot of people say I love you back as a reflex or reply, much like when you greet people in the morning say, "fine, and how are you". I think its just a response. I seen an episode of Curb Your Enthusiam about it. It's just something you say, no one expect to be held accountable for it "let me know if there is something I can do to help" outside of the basics.
