Would you feel an instant sense of relief. You are not disconnected because you still have family, friends and neighbours. But the endless internet. Twitter. Facebook. All of it. Gone! Such sweet relief!

OR would you take to your bed and crawl up into a ball of depression. Sucking your thumb as you tap hopelessly at your now completely internet-free devices. A sense of terror crawls over you.

Relief, or terror?

Terror?

How about choosing between the loss of your buddy from your sig, or this strange internet? Bye-bye internet!

Humans are extremely adaptable. Before long you would start writing letters again. And fuss over the kinds of paper of ink you might use. The print edition newspaper would become a treasure, a delightful arrival on your doormat each morning.

You dog could once again fetch the newspaper for you. He sure can't fetch the internet!

And why are you here?????? Wouldn't it be better for you to go out in a park or so? And if you are an English guy (?) you could go to Hyde-Park-Corner, climb upon a little step stool and there you could hold your sermon. Perhaps some old Ladies would cuddle you afterwards.

If I am going to ask someone how they feel (or guess how they hypothetically would feel) about something, then I can not turn around and attack them for what they tell me. Feelings are feelings; they are not right or wrong and each person is the ultimate authority on how they feel.

It's an interesting question to post - now people can have their say. If someone's feelings are different than mine, a response of "How fascinating!" is all that is required.

Not an English guy, but a Kiwi.:)

Perhaps you would feel terror on the first day of no internet. And a few days after even. But soon enough you would adapt.

I would look forward to writing letters to distant friends. And to the Newspaper. And playing music on an internet free CD player. Hardly the end of the world.

So what would you do to adapt?

For your work there could no longer be a paperless environment. You could pop down to the post office, with your dog in toe, to send telegrams though. And of course mobile texts are still possible.

A terror? Nope. And yet you, like 99% of your fellows, feel it would be the end of the civilised world. WHY?!

Sweet dreams anyway:-*

I'll be just fine, I've got at least 8 terabytes of porn backed up on portable hard drives...

But seriously, while I and others like myself who actually have manual labor and survival skills would fare well and possibly even thrive, the rest of the world would be in complete chaos. With so many peoples livelihood based on internet technology the social and economical repercussions would be devastating. There would be power failures along with shortages of food and supplies. Riots, race wars, and possibly even civil wars would erupt everywhere.

But me, I'd be hiding up in the mountains in my van with solar power, a stockpile of firearms and ammo, and enough porn to last me the rest of my life...

In one word: A happy life (no that have been 3 words!) :p:);)

The first victim that loss of internet connection will claim is my addiction to porn. Fortunately, I have lots of porn stashed for such a rainy day to fall back on like Brmstn69. Otherwise, I will most likely go back and do more of what occupied my free time before the advent of the internet, meaningful and productive activities such as reading, playing music, writing in my journal, shopping, volunteering, etc. I use to spend a lot more time on those before the internet gobbled my free time like a blackhole sucking everything close by.

I think I would feel optimism for the future of humanity for the first time in years.

Can you expand a bit on your thinking?

I don't necessarily disagree, but I just wonder why exactly that's you're belief.
