I had a flat tire on my vintage Lincoln, so I changed the tire and then took it out for a test drive. Along the way, I had to cross some railroad tracks. Unfortunately, I didn't see that there was a damaged railroad spike sticking up just enough...
Now, I know what your thinking, I just changed the tire and put the spare on, ran over the spike and had another flat with no spare tire...
But no, I'm not that fuckin' lucky. It didn't get the tire... Instead, because the car is 20ft. long and weighs almost 3-1/2 tons, and sits so low to the ground and the angle of incline at the tracks, it caught my muffler and ripped it loose and then punctured my fuel tank, which I had just filled up 10 minutes earlier...
So there I am stuck in the middle of the street, 20 gallons of gasoline gushing out from under my car and I can't even pull it off the road because with the muffler dragging it could spark and explode...
To top it all off, my cell phone is dead...
but at least there was a nice, drunk, elderly couple sitting on the front porch watching it all who let me use there phone to call a tow truck.
Of coarse, with all that fuel rushing out we also had to call the police and fire department...
The towing bill was $63 which coincidentally, was the exact amount of cash I had in my pocket, so now I'm broke. On top of that, I will also be getting a $300 bill from the city for the clean up of the fuel...
So let's tally this all up...
Clean up... $300
towing..........$63
20 gal, gas....$50
Total...........$413
and that's before I even get the damn car fixed, which will require a new exhaust and fuel tank, if I can even find one because the car is an antique...
