I had a flat tire on my vintage Lincoln, so I changed the tire and then took it out for a test drive. Along the way, I had to cross some railroad tracks. Unfortunately, I didn't see that there was a damaged railroad spike sticking up just enough...

Now, I know what your thinking, I just changed the tire and put the spare on, ran over the spike and had another flat with no spare tire...

But no, I'm not that fuckin' lucky. It didn't get the tire... Instead, because the car is 20ft. long and weighs almost 3-1/2 tons, and sits so low to the ground and the angle of incline at the tracks, it caught my muffler and ripped it loose and then punctured my fuel tank, which I had just filled up 10 minutes earlier...

So there I am stuck in the middle of the street, 20 gallons of gasoline gushing out from under my car and I can't even pull it off the road because with the muffler dragging it could spark and explode...

To top it all off, my cell phone is dead...
but at least there was a nice, drunk, elderly couple sitting on the front porch watching it all who let me use there phone to call a tow truck.

Of coarse, with all that fuel rushing out we also had to call the police and fire department...

The towing bill was $63 which coincidentally, was the exact amount of cash I had in my pocket, so now I'm broke. On top of that, I will also be getting a $300 bill from the city for the clean up of the fuel...

So let's tally this all up...

Clean up... $300
towing..........$63
20 gal, gas....$50

Total...........$413

and that's before I even get the damn car fixed, which will require a new exhaust and fuel tank, if I can even find one because the car is an antique...

 I'm going to say the same thing I said to Bloop: it could've been worse. You're alright and that's all that matters, Brmstn. I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm glad to hear you're OK to rant about it. :)

Thought about sueing the railroad company?

Btw, what do you need such a big car for?

Here in Germany they always say big car = small cock *veg*

But hey, it could have been worse. Imagine a train would have come while you were in that house making your calls... ;)

LMAO @ Kai. They say that all over the place; it's called "overcompensating"... and something tells me his cock isn't small; he just gives off that vibe.

Guess why I asked what he needs that car for my dearest Jonnyboy ;)
Because I don't think myself he doesn't have to compensate something ^^

Agreed, could have been worse with the fuel and all, who knows, even the drunk couple could've tried to take advantage of ur defenseless body... Then again, since it's the road's fault u should really look for compensation like kitty said. They should pay u for ur trouble.

What do I need a car that big for? Well, originally I bought the car for my mother to drive, She has always wanted a Lincoln. But she has now decided not to drive anymore. I also need a large vehicle because, although she can walk short distances, she is in a wheelchair and has trouble getting in and out of small cars, plus I need a big trunk to carry the wheelchair...

The only thing I'm compensating for is a severe lack of cash flow. While I'd love to have a new Lincoln or Cadillac, in my price range about all I can afford is a 15 year old Toyota Corolla. So I went the vintage route, some of these big old dinosaurs can be gotten cheap. Besides, which would you rather be seen driving...

This...

or this...

Women use jewelry as accessories, men use cars...:p

Also, driving a vintage car is a great way to get cute guys to start a conversation with YOU...

And I will be contacting CSX railroad on Monday, and depending on their response, a lawyer as well...

At least I still have the "Mighty Merc" to get me around til then...

P.S. If I didn't have to drive my mother around, I'd probably have an MG Midget or a Miata...

To answer your question: the car on the top picture.

The other one looks like a disguised Borg cube.

Oh, that is just rude... Hasn't my poor baby been through enough?

It may be a flying brick, but at least it's distinctive. You will never confuse it with a lesser automobile.

To really appreciate one of these behemoths you have to drive one. The power and torque from the 460 ci. V-8 is incredible, the brakes impeccable, the road holding and handling are amazing given it's mass (as good as or better than the big Mercedes and BMW's of the era) , and the ride is like floating down the road on a water-bed. Inside the seats are like the most comfortable leather sofa you can find, there's enough leg room even in the back seat, for six footers to stretch out in, and it will seat six comfortably without the need of a "third row" seat like most of today's SUV's...

This was one of the most luxurious, expensive, and advanced American cars made in it's day,and very few cars today can match it...

P.S. They are getting harder to find now because GERMAN collectors keep buying them and shipping them overseas. Resistance is futile...:p

Yes, I remember that the son of my mother ex-empoyer got one of these ugly US-street-warships on his 18th... he never got it why I didn't envy him and prefered my Ford Fiasko... I mean Fiesta.

Parking it anywhere in England (even my driveway) would be a nightmare but I'd love one too - you can stick those horrible little modern things, they completely lack any personality or asthetics, totally bland.

Would be completely impractical of course but so what :p

I had a Fiesta (mark 1, 1.6 liter) back in high school, it was my mothers car until she drove it to death. She told me that if I could fix it , it was mine. My uncle had a totaled out Fiesta SCCA race car, with the Lotus dual overhead cam, twin carb version of the same motor and a bunch of other go-fast goodies...
Me and my friends stripped that car completely and put all the parts on my car...
I loved that car, except that all the door handles, inside and outside broke off...
They only imported them here for three years and now they're impossible to find...:( But I'd love to get another one...

P.S. funny that you should refer to it as a "US-street-warship", as the Lincoln has long been the favorite US urban-assault vehicle of choice...

Lucky for me, here in the US, large SUV's still rule the road, so they make the parking spaces extra-large. But I can't park it in my garage because it won't fit (neither will my other car:thinking:) as for my driveway, it runs between mine and the neighbors houses, and while it will fit, once in there I can't open the doors.:duh: So I park in the street...

That is a beautiful car!!
Those were tanks that's for sure.

One issue I had with the older cars is they are so heavy today's jacks aren't strong enough to pick them up to change the tire.

Hope you can find a gas tank.

Not really, with all the extra electronics and safety equipment (air bags, etc.) today's cars actually weigh as much and in some cases more than they did back then. A new Town Car weighs almost the same as mine. And in 1983 when Volkswagen launched the first Rabbit GTI, it weighed only 2600 lbs. the Rabbit GTI today weighs over 3600 lbs...

As for the gas tank, demo derby's are very popular around here and the Lincoln is a derby favorite (I wonder why?), so there should be plenty to find that have already been removed because they replace them with a fuel cell. :thumbs up:

And even more good news, a nice police officer was kind enough to stop me and inform me that the license plates on my other car have expired. :duh: He was even nice enough to make an appointment for me with a Judge to make sure I get it taken care of...:p

Sad to hear about your car, Brmstn. Some are lucky, others aren’t. But the bad luck culminated rather severe in your case. I suppose the next story will not help, but maybe it is good to see that things can be worse.
It happened in 1977 (or 78) in Germany. A businessman was in such a hurry that he tried to pass a level crossing with his Mercedes despite the alarm bells were ringing. Bad luck, the freight train was quicker. However his car was total loss, he managed to get out without severe injuries. This was the only good part of the story. The bad part goes as follows:
The collision was so violently that the train derailed. Five wagons loaded with petrol caught fire. The railway track was beside a canal. The burning wagons fell into the canal and there was a big fire. In the canal was at that moment a ship that caught fire too. Out of control the ship rammed a bridge. Both the bridge and the ship were total loss. Happily the man was insured. But unhappily the insurance knew a maximum of one million DMarks. The damage however was several millions. So the man went bankrupt and lost everything

Um... is it sad that I don't know jack shit about cars? LOL Seriously; most of this is seriously confusing to a gay boy like me.

I'll just smile and nod in a bland attempt to look cool. X_X
