It Could Only Happen To Me...

Sad to hear about your car, Brmstn. Some are lucky, others aren’t. But the bad luck culminated rather severe in your case. I suppose the next story will not help, but maybe it is good to see that things can be worse.
It happened in 1977 (or 78) in Germany. A businessman was in such a hurry that he tried to pass a level crossing with his Mercedes despite the alarm bells were ringing. Bad luck, the freight train was quicker. However his car was total loss, he managed to get out without severe injuries. This was the only good part of the story. The bad part goes as follows:
The collision was so violently that the train derailed. Five wagons loaded with petrol caught fire. The railway track was beside a canal. The burning wagons fell into the canal and there was a big fire. In the canal was at that moment a ship that caught fire too. Out of control the ship rammed a bridge. Both the bridge and the ship were total loss. Happily the man was insured. But unhappily the insurance knew a maximum of one million DMarks. The damage however was several millions. So the man went bankrupt and lost everything

What do I need a car that big for? Well, originally I bought the car for my mother to drive, She has always wanted a Lincoln. But she has now decided not to drive anymore. I also need a large vehicle because, although she can walk short distances, she is in a wheelchair and has trouble getting in and out of small cars, plus I need a big trunk to carry the wheelchair...

The only thing I'm compensating for is a severe lack of cash flow. While I'd love to have a new Lincoln or Cadillac, in my price range about all I can afford is a 15 year old Toyota Corolla. So I went the vintage route, some of these big old dinosaurs can be gotten cheap. Besides, which would you rather be seen driving...

Also, driving a vintage car is a great way to get cute guys to start a conversation with YOU...

And I will be contacting CSX railroad on Monday, and depending on their response, a lawyer as well...

At least I still have the "Mighty Merc" to get me around til then...



P.S. If I didn't have to drive my mother around, I'd probably have an MG Midget or a Miata...

That's a nice Lincoln! Love the chrome and what a nice vintage land yaht! I am looking for an older Cadillac, but the ones I want come at a hefty price! I love the huge engines under the hood! Sorry for your of your troubles, I HATE car trouble! Good luck my friend!
