Already upgraded. I'm glad I did because instead of waiting 10 mins for my slow laptop to power off, it takes less than one. They really wasn't kidding when they said that boot (still slow but not as slow as Windows 7 was on my laptop so it's an improvement) and shutdown times would be fast.

Do you know if I will loose any data when I upgrade?

It will remain the same as it was? I mean the folders name, desktop etc.

I do not want to loose anything.

You should not lose and data on an upgrade - it is the OS that is being upgraded, not your files.

my brother has an HP with windows 7 and today he got a "forced upgrade" he tried to stop it by turning off the pc but he found it resumed when he turned it on later...He could not see what the thing was, and MS Update did not indicate any updates...After a long install procedure it went thru and the pc restarted...He went to the MS Updates and it said "Windows10 home install failed"...he never said to reserve a free copy or in any way indicated he wanted it because we prefer to stay with windows 7 since everything works great NOW!!!
Anyone else have this happen or hear of this "forced automatic dowload and install" of w10?

For now Win 10 is supposed to be distributed to those that reserved an upgrade so users should not get a forced upgrade. When I did my upgrade I had to click on the Win 10 logo that's been on my computer since I reserved the upgrade and then I had to click again to start the download.

The computer that I upgraded is an HP and Win 7 so I don't know why you would get a forced upgrade.

Do you know if I will loose any data when I upgrade?

I do not want to loose anything.

I found that I had to update my printer's software drivers. I lost my settings for my home network so I had to go through setting it up again.

I also had to update the driver's on the other computers on my network in order to be able to print from them and this despite the fact that I didn't (and now won't) upgrade my OS on those computers.

If you're currently using any version of IE your favourites will not show up, but you can get them back just by clicking on Import in Edge, the newest version of IE.

The remainder of my files stayed and so far I haven't lost anything except my anti-virus program.

Hi Guys

Does anyone know how to get/fix the Windows Store App in Win 10 working again? cause every time i click on it, it loads for a few seconds and then disappears:(, before i did software updates in Windows Update, it was working, but after one update ( which i don't know what that update was ) its now caused the WinStore App to not working anymore

Added Note: Internet Explorer Browser that was in Win 7 and Win 8.1 is still available in Windows 10, as i still have it and its still working :)

Hi lionelboy:heart:

Thanks for your Kind comment & letting me know this, Wow you got those 2 Windows systems dual booting, Cool :)

This is only a suggestion, you don't have to do this if you don't want to my friend, but you should update your Win Vista system side only to Win 7 cause i think vista is/was a very slow crappy buggy OS and about Windows 10, i was going to wait for a couple of months before upgrading from Win 8.1 but i wanted to test it as i didn't get the chance to when it was in beta technical preview phase, so its too late for me as i upgraded early, i could go back to Win 7 again, but i accidentally deleted my option to do that:( my bad, as Win 10 has the ability for all of us to go back to the previous OS we had.

I upgradet to Windows 10. In the moment it works nicely.
Sure I disable a lot of this "send info to Microsoft" stuff ^^, hey there are a lot of infos to collect, haha.
But what I don't like in the moment is, seems like problems with admin right, if I wanna save or changing something. So most time it says me, I don't have any rights. I also use my admin account to give me more rights, but it doesn't works so well. So I always need to check how to get what I want to do. So in this case my Windows 7 didn't make this trouble, hehe. Anyone else who know this weird stuff about admin problems?

with my desk i'll definetly stay on W7, this is a well running OS
can't see any advantage for an upgrade or being a "free" beta tester for MS. in that case ;)

on my laptop i will upgrade for sure since it came with Windows 8/ 8.1 crap.

Does Windows 10 end that design mistake of getting rid of actual windows and showing everything in fullscreen, forcing the user to switch between several fullscreens in a manner which makes one wonder, on what drugs the people were on who designed that piece of crap known as windows 8?

Yes-ish.

If your computer has a keyboard and mouse, you'll get a desktop and windows. If your computer does not, you'll get the fullscreen-style behaviour.

IMO that makes sense - if I have a tablet, full-screen is sane, if I have a desktop, windows are sane, so the OS seems to, at least in theory, behave in a sane way.

The other day my mother spilt a bowl of cereal over her powered-up laptop. As you can guess it was ruined. She's an invalid and even though she has no idea how to use it, relies on her computer for keeping contact with everyone (in other words, she's on Facebook all fucking day), so I gave her one of my tablets to use. That lasted about three hours, lol. She just couldn't figure out how to use it. I ended up buying her a new laptop that day. It came with Windows 8.1 and the option for a free upgrade to 10. She had already heard too many complaints from people she knew on Facebook, so the upgrade to 10 was out of the question. And having already been through Hell and back teaching her first to use Windows 95, then 98, ME, XP and finally 7, I wasn't about to attempt teaching her to use 8. And to be honest, even after having it on my computer for 3 years, I still can't use 8 myself. After spending three hours figuring out how to get to the control panel so I could set up the WiFi, the very first thing I did once I got online was install "Classic Shell" with a windows 7 interface, just like I have on my own computer. She was back on Facebook almost immediately and has had no difficulty using the new machine.

For anybody stuck with Windows 8 or 10 and hating it, I highly recommend trying the "Classic Shell", it sure has made my life online easier...

Hehe, I will not upgrade my Vista system, just get rid of it after migrating all my apps to w8.1. ;)
But thanks a lot for your kind suggestion. p:p

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and so far things have been pretty smooth. I was surprised at how fast the process went. The interface feels incomplete; I think it's certain aspects of the visual design. Also the MS Edge browser actually is incomplete; not everything in it works yet. However, with that said, my system feels a bit more modern than Windows 7 and the Metro/Modern features have been tamed so as to be a bit more graceful and seamless with traditional Windows.

I think the start menu would be nicer if I could change and choose what's in place of the recent item list but am otherwise happy. With the live tiles but partial footprint on screen as well as being able to size it how I like, they did a good job combining the old start menu with the start screen from 8.

One of our friends, a computer-freak, has changed my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and just in the moment I'm very happy with it. Everything looks nice and it is quick. Now I must collect experience with it and see if all will be ok in the daily work.

IF I upgrade my pc from W8 to W10 will I lose the software I purchased for my PCs W8? Stuff like video/audio editor and other tools I use everyday? I am guessing my ESET anti-virus software will transfer but I'm not sure about the other stuff so I've been holding off.

I'm getting a reminder from MS every hour or so saying "your 'reserved' copy of W10 is waiting... click here to upgrade". It is quite annoying, lol.

Plus I've only just gotten accustomed to W8 - why would I ever want to go through the pains of such an upgrade so soon? Granted W8 has flaws but I've adapted to them now and the thought of going through that again with W10 is not a pleasant one

The upgrade happens in-place, so your software should continue to work just fine.

For safety, I would recommend being sure you have your license keys on hand just in case something goes wrong though.
