Also - I think it's very important to understand that war damages the young men who endure it, and it looks very likely that it broke this young man. The Republicans want war to be a glorious thing, reality is different, and the fact that it seems to have broken this young man is an inconvenient truth they want to hide by branding him a traitor rather than a victim of war.
