^Not that far for my country. Sometimes I think that my country is one of a base religion country than a democratic one. When those people or organization so called 'hands of God' doin vandalism, our government looks like a rag doll, cant do nothing. Afraid to do something or so.
It must be great living in a country where democracy and equality are well respected. Literally, since many are just talk shit from the government but the reality are none like that.

Obama Care is the art of the possible. It's not the end of the process of fixing the US healthcare system, but it is a start

Exactly my earlier point about Obama caving in to every whim of the Republicans. I agree with you about the Blue Dog Dems too, and again, Obama shares the blame because he could have applied much more pressure to get better legislation passed.

And I'm not just talking about health care here: our economy would be in much better shape if Obama had pressed harder to get his original stimulus plan through. The reason the stimulus is less effective is because Obama let the Republicans & Blue Dogs water it down so badly.

I laugh but also get really miffed every time I hear the pundits claim that we need more compromising in Congress. Compromise is what got us where we are now, because to the Republicans "compromise" means giving in to their every demand.

Did no one listen after Obama's first election when the Republicans made as their rallying cry: "We're going to do everything we can to make him a one-term president"? Did people not recognize the implication of that: "We're going to prevent him from accomplishing anything for the good of the country and the American people"?

Believe it or not, people, I am NOT a Democrat. I am an American, and I have voted for my share of Republicans in the past, which makes me detest even more what has happened to their party in recent years.

This is silly, but very funny.

What's even more funny is the way the US "News" networks have tried to turn someone syncing to their own voice into a scandal, even going so far as to call it a "Gate".

Calling this kind of drivel "Gate" is an insult to the real journalism that brought down a corrupt president!

I think a lot of it is that Obama isn't easy to make fun of. So they grab at what they can.
Clinton was the smartest yokel in the world. It was fun!
Joe Biden covers his smartashellness with his goofyness. Pretty fun.

Obama is just low key and two moves ahead of everyone. Not really fun. So they grab at the lipsink scandal, the Michele Obama eyeroll scandal.

There's no real scandals...at least not yet.

Good points.

Something else occurs to me, Obama is the most wholesome family man in the White House in as long as I can remember. He should be a hero of the religious right, a shinning example of the kind of good family they insist we should all have. I find it hard to reconcile the reality of the Obama family with the way Fox News etc. vilify them.

But he's liberal (kinda), and he's black (kinda).

So he must be the devil, right?

Yes, don't ever forget that a person cannot be wholesome or in any way admirable without occupying the far-right fringe of the political spectrum.

Not in my lifetime, but the march of progress is relentless, if sometimes glacial. At some point in the future, I have no doubt it will happen...IF we don't destroy ourselves first.

Why not? It is just what your demands are. Is it necessary that he is openly gay, or is it sufficient that gay people can be a president? There are lots of examples of high ranked people who actually were gay. Sir Edward Heath, the prime minister from GB was gay; rumors said that Dag Hammarskjold, the secretary general of the UN was gay and our Dutch King Willem the second was gay. I am pretty sure that a lot more examples can be found.
