Oron is a rip off!

Wish I had seen all the negative postings about Oron before getting premium account (for 30 days).

Totally agree with all the negative stuff, its a damn rip off. I signed up, started downloading (that at least was OK and pretty fast), just done a few downloads and it said "Limit Exceeded"

I thought are these idiots taking the piss? Paid for 30 days and then cut off the first day!

Having read through the Oron posts looks like if you exceed limit, (which is pretty low, just a few DVDs worth) you have to wait 3 bloody days to be connected again. Some "Premium Service" !! Shite!!!

What really annoys me the bastards do not mention this limit at all on the Premium account description, according to that its "unlimited" .

So thats looks a false description and possibly against consumer law in some countries? (Like UK Trades Descriptions Act)

Actually so annoyed might ask my credit card company to refund the money as Oron dont provide the unlimted service they stated....I would not call a f****** 3 day wait unlimted!!

Hardly worth the effort to get refund, but its the principle- and Oron probably rely on people not bothering to get back such small amounts, if hundreds of us did it they would maybe think again -or at least post honest descriptions!
Got better things to do with my life than wait 3 days for this so called unlimted shite!

Never again will I use that crap service!

Well, I kicked up shit and accused them of false representation not mentioning the download limit and would be writing to my card company.etc...and they reset the limit at once, so it worked again...guilty conscience perhaps?

Never mind, no doubt soon have another 3 day wait to look forward too

Given the price of bandwidth I can understand having limits, but calling a limited service unlimited is not on

Sadly that's a very common tactic uses by many ISPs too. If you look hard you often find an asterisk somewhere on the page where it says in very small writing something cryptic like 'fair usage applies' or some such to try steer within the law, JUST. It's a shameful tactic, but far from isolated.

oron is the biggest crap! i cant understand why everyone is using it for uploads. as a premium user u have to wait 3 (!) days after ur download volume (only 12 GB) is used. i will never, never again get a premium account on oron. worst service and hilehoster ever... with this bad system i hope this site won'nt last for long.

Try to avoid generating a link and then not download it. When you do that, generate links in advance and fail to start downloading within 24 hours, you lose the amount of traffic needed for this file from your 20000 Limit.

How much can I download?
Free users can download up to 2000 Mb within 3 days. Premium users can download 20000 Mb within any 3 day (72 hour) period, utilizing maximum available speed. If you are a Premium user, but 20000 Mb over 3 days is to low of a limit for you, you can always create another Premium account and keep downloading.

This means that as premium member you have 20000 Mb of download traffic available within any 3 day (72 hour) period. If for example you’ve download 20000Mb on the first day, you will have to wait 3 days until it resets. If you have downloaded 7000 Mb on the first day, 7000 Mb in second day and 6000 Mb on the third day, this means that on the fourth day you will have 7000 Mb and if you don’t use it, on the fifth day you will have 14000Mb and so on.



i didnt understand why so many use oron to upload their files... i really thought this is a good filehoster when a lot of uploaders use this... so i buy a premium account.

As a former board administrator and System admin you guys should know that Oron offers incentive greater than other file hosting, however the file hosting in my understanding is for customer not owner... as board admin we are not going to lose much anyway but Oron are indeed the worst for free users. I absolutely don't want their services in my next board no matter how less expensive they are for us board admins... :cheers:. For god sake they piss off our users so what's the point right?

i had the same problem, i email them saying that they didnt wrote it anywhere before paying them and they guy replay to me that its a "one time" thing and reset my ratio so i can resume download, but told me to "pay" attention to what they write (i still havent found it), but the worst thing (they did wrote that and i didnt see it) if you pay with paypal - they automaticlly renew your subscription, so if you did it with paypal make sure to cancel your subscription before the end of the month

OK so I must be the ONLY one that has never had a problem with ORON (or Fileserve); in fact they seem to be the only provider that I can count on no matter...something I could never say for Filesonic. Considering the amount of stuff I download for free I've never seen it as an issue to upgrade to premium so I cannot speak for the free users although I would have to ask, how much porn are you downloading that you are maxing out so quickly? Just my two cents

Thanks for pointing that out, I had not realized that, so you have saved me another month subscription- plus the extreme annoyance of having had to pay those bastards again for their useless crap.

As for paypal if I consider that another dodgy service and only use them when I have no other choice. Tried to cancel Oron on their website but there's no option to do that, so wrote to them to do it manually. Any other payment provider gives option to cancel online-not bloody paypal!

to cancel oron on paypal you need to enter paypal, get to your oran bill and chose "do not renrew" (its in the billing windows of paypal for oron, its also should be in the bottom of the main window in paypal)

Well I've never had any issues with paypal and I was easily able to do an online cancellation of the Oron payment. Perhaps you didn't get to the correct page to do that. I logged in, clicked on the payee (Oron) and toward the bottom right of the screen I was offered the option to cancel that payee - with the caution that if I wished to reinstate them, I would need to create a new Oron payee file. No prob there, I won't be doing that.

The simple answer is that we needed to upgrade to faster servers, and to pay for those servers, ad space was sold to ORON. So, now that ORON is paying for those faster servers, we are obligated to allow them as stand-alone file host, even though none of the staff likes the idea.

Of coarse, if ORON were to be banned completely, that would drastically cut down on the amount of traffic here. With all the serial posters, recyclers, rapid leechers, and post thieves that make up the bulk of ORON users gone, we would no longer have need of those fast, expensive, new servers...
