Hey Guys,

Not sure if a post has been created here regarding PrEP.

Basically....

"PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine people at risk for HIV take to prevent getting HIV from sex. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV."

A Mate of mine has just stated it, so I got asking about it.

He said he found this website for the UK, which gives info on it and where it can be got from.

http://anon.projectarchive.net/?http://www.IWantPrepNow.co.uk

So please continue this thread of other places around the world where you are of sourses to get this pill.

And maybe links to places that has more info on the product (dont forget to use http://anon.projectarchive.net/).

I did a thread 10 years ago when the drugs were first made available - so we are more than overdue for a new discussion. There are quite a few more choices now.

For those in the US, the Federal Dept of Health and Human Services has some great info, including on how to get started and financial help:

My concern would be that some people would see it as a way to have unprotected sex. Obviously, HIV is so extremely serious that maximum precautions should be taken, so okay take the pill but only if also using a condom.

It's not an either/or option, it's *both*.

So if sharing news of this emphasis this point.

It's not natural in reality to have strings of sexual 'partners' (honestly a one night stand is not any kind of partner, but a stranger you actually know zero about).

Monogamy is the way to go. As we have seen with covid new strains can pop up - how long before a new strain of hiv pops up?

People have a hard time assessing risk. That is not new. They understand "safe" and they understand "dangerous". But the gray area between those two certainties is hard to assess. Here are some things I try to keep in mind - I offer them here in case they are helpful.

  • The only behavior that is truly safe is abstinence. Sex, by definition, is an intimate act between two people and that brings risk. We are probably more aware of this fact now during COVID times. If you want to be safe then don't fuck. End of story. However, if that isn't an option, then read on.
  • "Safe sex" is an advertising slogan. What it really means is "safer sex", because there is still risk. There is a risk that a condom will break. There is a risk that someone forgets to take their pills or runs out. There is a risk that your "safe" sex partner is lying or doesn't actually know his current HIV status. There is a risk that you drink or drug too much and forget all about your safe sex plans. So, anytime you become sexual with another person, you are taking on some amount of risk to your health. The object then, is not to be absolutely safe, but to reduce the risk down to a manageable level that you can live with.
  • Condoms and PrEP both have about the same efficacy rates. In broad general studies they are between 90% and 95% effective. The main reason they miss the 100% mark is because of human error. People sometimes don't use condoms properly, so they fail. People sometimes don't take their PrEP medication that they have been prescribed, and HIV transmission occurs. But the reverse is also true - if you use condoms properly and consistently or if you take your PrEP meds as prescribed, they are both about 99% effective.
  • The choice comes down to what works for you. Condoms are cheap and easy to get. Anyone in any economic bracket can use one. On the other hand, all it takes is skipping a condom one time and you could be in big trouble. PrEP is much more forgiving of a single lapse. Miss one dose, and you are still covered. However, PrEP is expensive and out of reach for many unless it is covered by insurance. And some people are fine with taking pills, while others have a harder time thinking ahead and sticking to a consistent regimen. For them, it's easier to just bring a condom along when they have sex, rather than start planning weeks in advance.

Do what works for you. If you have insurance, talk to your doctor about PrEP so you know your options.

Just spotted another promotion for PrEP on a certain French video website.
Good on them for trying to promote this product :)

This appeared just as the fucking started, and only lasted about 10 seconds
