Pro-Russian Rebel Commander: 'We Did Warn You — Do Not Fly in Our Sky'

Strelkov-Donetsk.jpg

Igor Strelkov, a pro-Russian separatist commander, center, pictured in Donestsk, Ukraine on July 11.

KIEV, Ukraine — As news broke of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 being downed in eastern Ukraine, the separatist’s shadowy commander with a pencil mustache issued a dark warning on social media.

Through his VK.com account, Russia’s version of Facebook, the self-proclaimed defense minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Igor Girkin — who goes by the nom de guerre Igor Strelkov — boasted about shooting down a plane.

"We did warn you — do not fly in our sky," he wrote.

Thinking it was a Ukrainian transport plane, Strelkov added that “a plane has just been downed somewhere around Torez, it lays there behind the 'Progress' mine,” referring to the mining town of some 80,000 people.

“And here is the video proving another 'bird' falling down,” he continued. “The bird went down behind a slagheap, not in a residential district. So no peaceful people were injured,” Strelkov wrote, adding that there is also information about a Ukrainian military plane shot down.

However, Strelkov deleted the post when he found out it was actually a commercial jetliner carrying 295 innocent people — not a military aircraft.

This is crazy. 200+ people dead on a commercial airline?

No functioning state can allow this.
Czar Putin. You sanction this? You wink at this?

This might be a moment. If Putin shrugs this off, Russia is the new North Korea.
This is not where Russia wants to be. Have they got the smarts to reset this?
The moment is now.

I just watched a report on CNN that concerned a phone conversation between a Pro-Russian commander and a subordinate - the taped phone conversation is very damning for the Pro-Russian separatists. I hope you are able to hear the tape or read the transcript. It is obvious they shot the plane down and then realize they will have to fix it so they are not found to be guilty. It is horrible...

What did those Malaysians think? Flying over the People-Republic of Donezk without asking for permission.

I think that's sarcasm. If it isn't, it's crude.

This is just awful...

A passenger posted this on Facebook right before he boarded Malaysia Airlines MH17. It reads "If it disappears, this is what it looks like."

ihno was absolutely being sarcastic...

Sarcasm does not easily translate but if you consider the person posting the comment and the subject - it is obviously sarcasm.

Sniffit :)

Yes, it was sarcastic. It is a catastrophe for the families but for the political side I have hardly anything but sarcasm for it. At first the leader twitters about his great victory incl. video, deletes it later and they repost it as an ukranian attack - with the same video.

This is sarcasm too: But I have no doubt that the truth will come out. The separati... oh sorry, let me begin again. The concerned citizens of The People's Republic of Donezk have found the blackbox and have directly transported it to Moscow and don't we all know what great experts for truth they are.

Doesn't this have to be a game changer?

As we understand it, Russia gave the separatists surface to air missiles, and they shot down a commercial jet.
No functioning state does this. Even North Korea doesn't do this.

I have no doubt that Russia did not intend this. But the blood is on their hands.

Are they a pariah nation now? A shrug of the shoulders isn't going to cut it. What will they do now?

As a European myself I fear this is just the start of a further slide into barbarism.Watching an interview on the BBC tonight there was a spokesperson from Russia Radio who just denied everything and said it was Washington and London who were blaming the Russians. With that kind of total disregard for truth or consequences I fear the official Russian response will be stick your head in the sand and pretend nothing happened.A very sad day for Europe and the world.

Rebel Leaser Gives Bizarre Account Of Plane Crash

How can this guy get away with this stuff? He is demeaning the deaths of 298 that his rebels caused.

Rebel Leaser Gives Bizarre Account Of Plane Crash
Associated Press | 2:45 pm July 18 2014

Pro-Russian separatist commander Igor Strelkov leaves after a news conference in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, July 10, 2014.

The pro-rebel website Russkaya Vesna on Friday quoted Igor Girkin as saying he was told by people at the crash site that "a significant number of the bodies weren't fresh," adding that he was told they were drained of blood and reeked of decomposition.

The Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 was shot down Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. The plane was flying 10,000 meters above an area where Ukrainian forces have been fighting separatist rebels. Each side accuses the other of downing the plane.

U.S. intelligence authorities said a surface-to-air missile brought down the plane, and U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told the U.N. Security Council in New York on Friday that the missile was likely fired from a rebel-held area near the Russian border.

Girkin, also known as Strelkov and allegedly a former Russian military intelligence agent, said he couldn't confirm the information. But it's sure to add to the intense emotions surrounding the crash, with the rebels accused of shooting down the plane.

Girkin said "Ukrainian authorities are capable of any baseness."

He claimed that a large amount of blood serum and medications were found in the wreckage.

Yes, the bodies were not fresh. I bet the Ukrainians were already flying that malaysian plane over "The People's Republic of Doneztk" for weeks in the hope that they would finally shoot them down. I bet the pilots beamed out or were they supposed to be suicide candidates?

Russian propaganda has long stopped bothering with credibility.

Today I read with little surprise that the Leader of the "People's Republik" Igor Iwanowitsch Girkin, who also twittered about the sucessful destruction of the plane gloatingly, as well as his collegue, are not from Donetzk or even Ukraine. They are Russians and have russian passports.

That guy doesn't care about the victims of the flight and I don't think he cares about the people of Donetzk, how many of them die or lose their homes. He cares about his nationalistic dream of "Rus". People - in best sowjet tradition - don't matter.
http://anonym.to/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_Girkin

But really. Why do the people from Donetzk make somebody their leader who has the nickname "Sniper" (Igor Ivanovich Strelkov=sniper, shooter) and even uses this as his own name? A nationalistic Lunatic, who gets turned on by fighting and great-nationalistic dreams?

It's a small comfort, but better than no comfort at all, to know that the victims of this madness probably didn't suffer. The Buk missile is designed to make the target break up instantly. At 10km altitude the explosive decompression would cause loss of conciousness before anyone had time to register fear or pain. Knowing this doesn't make the crime any less obscene, it just makes it easier to sleep at night not having to imagine what it feels like to be thrown 6 miles though the air.

not altogether a bad thing that the blame is being laid on Putin as well as these separistic idiots, & that the preposterous bluster is being seen for what it is. At last the hand of Russia is being seen by the rest of the world.

I don't understand the relactance of the Dutch PM. You got 193 countrymen who died on that plane and he doesn't do anything except wait for other EU members to make the decision for him. I mean seriously, this Dutch PM needs to grow some balls and take the lead, a week has passed and the last thing we heard from him is that he 'urges Putin to influence the rebels'.

What is true what is lie - I'don't know, I'm not there. But I'll read my papers. Tell they always the tuth? I don't know but I think in this horrible crime against humanity they can't lie. And so I must say that what happened there must be the most wonderful news for A. Hitler in the deepest hell. He has found a successor!!!!

"Corpses will be deported, black boxes are disappearing, the luggage of the victims will be rummaged around, their credit-cards are misused. On the field of the disaster the separatists are doing what they want to do - whereas they interfere by every trick in the book the international investigators. ..........." That was a short clipping from an article of one of our newspapers from today.

Are these people really civilized people or are they wild animals (oh I must excuse me - wild animals to compare with these Russians is a bad, bad defamation of any wild animal!)

And Putin (how said our former Chancellor Schröder? - Putin is a flawless democrat!!!!) I think is one of the greatest criminals of our young century. His place has to be the prisoner's box of the International Court of Justice!

I'll bow my head indeep sorrow in front of all the many victims of these Russian monsters

Netherlands is a small peaceable country. There is nothing they can say, nothing they can do, except demonstrate the civilised dignity that is in short supply in other countries. Many leaders have taken the opportunity to stand in the spotlight and do their John Wayne act. Using a tragedy to boost your public image is not showing respect for the dead. Shouting macho words at Mr Putin will do what? Make him scared? He isn't scared of words, all they do is make him even less cooperative. Mark Rutte's restraint requires more balls to pull off than the oven-ready outrage that would placate his critics.
To get through Puties thick skin will require diplomacy that exploits his vanity and his self image as a leader of historic greatness. I'm talking about guile not appeasement.
