Product Key For Windows Help

Hellow community! So I was trying to get a family members computer connected to the web and it never wanted to connect, So I refreshed the computer from the recover partition and after I refreshed it (back to windows 8 pro with media center) it asks or tells me I need to activate windows. But see, the computer did not have a product key come with it. Most laptops and tower systems usually have this taped on the bottom/side of it, but theirs didn't. So I called gateway and the automated lady told me that my called cannot be completed. Also the warranty of the machine has expired so the support site couldn't help because of that. Now they're stuck with a non activated windows and its all my fault. So what can I do? Or do I need to get them to get another product key? :(

If there is no sticker, there was probably a license in the box somewhere. The chances are it was thrown away.

It's not your fault they didn't look after their license key!

I fear the only (legal) thing you can do is buy a new OEM copy of Windows.

Alright. So i came across this software called "RWEverything" and it looks like it can solve my issue. And by the way, microsoft stop putting the license key stickers on the machines for securty reasons i guess. Instead, it's embedded in the BIOS! Thanks you guys.

Talk about hiding the key!

If Microsoft were a logical company (HA!), you'd think the installer would read the key from the BIOS automatically instead of making you jump through all kinds of hoops and install really nerdy and un-user-friendly software like RWEverything. Imagine trying to talk a relative through that!
