Rapidshare has changed again...

For those of you not keeping up with current rapid events, in the last week rapidshare has ditched their old system of users buying a premium account for X amount of days and ditched their reward program for uploaders.

Their new system was based on tokens that you bought called Rapids. These tokens were deducted on a daily basis depending on the amount of files you securely stored on their system and how much traffic you downloaded each day.

Today its all changed again to a what seems to be simpler system and one that might be cheaper for many...

RapidShare listens and acts: One package for all users

As a result of the recent adjustments to our product and pricing model we have received a lot of feedback from our users. There was also positive response but we want to be honest with you: most answers were negative. With our adjustments we have alienated many users. As a matter of course, that was not our intention. Instead, it is our goal to introduce a system that gives our users more flexibility. However, we are happy about every single user response that we have received as this is the only way we can learn what our users really want. That is the reason why we have fundamentally revised our offer one more time and made it much simpler.

In addition to the free Premium Accounts, with immediate effect there is only one package for everybody: RapidPro

For 99 Rapids users immediately receive a traffic volume of 30 GB and a storage volume of 10 GB which last for 30 days.


If users need more volume, they can buy extra volume, of course. Each additional 1 GB of storage costs 2 Rapids per 30 days. 5 GB additional traffic volume will be charged with only 14 Rapids.


Unused traffic volume does not expire.
You will only be charged for additional storage if you activate the "keep files forever" option.

The prices for Rapids remain the same as before.

400 Rapids 4,99 €
1.000 Rapids 9,95 €
2.000 Rapids 19,90 €
5.000 Rapids 49,75 €
20.000 Rapids 199,00 €

That means that users can use their RapidPro 30 days for only 99 Cent making the new RapidShare second to none also in terms of value for money.

Please note that users have the following options in their account settings:

* Keep files forever: This option is not activated in the default settings. This means that if users exceed their storage volume, files that have not been downloaded for 60 days will automatically be deleted.
* Automatic purchase of traffic: This option is activated in the default settings. As soon as users reach the limit of their traffic volume, they will automatically buy additional volume.
* Automatic RapidPro Extension: This option is activated in the default settings. RapidPro-Packages will automatically be extended after 30 days if the user still has Rapids left.

Users can change these settings at any time in their account settings.

We are convinced that we will meet our users' needs with the new and simple model.

Translated means..
For 99 rapids, about 1 euro, you have a 30 day account with a 30gb download limit. Each additional 5gb over this 30gb limit is an extra 14 rapids.
If u dont go over this limit though you have a 30gb limit each month for about 10 months, all for 9.95 euro...

For the uploaders..
You now have 10gb of secured storage with your account. Meaning if you store less than 10gb on rapidshare you dont have to worry. If you store more its an additional 2 rapids for ever 1gb of secured storage over 10gb.
HOWEVER thats secured storage, that is if you dont want your files to be deleted.
You still have unlimited (well up to 2TB i think) of unsecured storage, meaning after 60 days of no-one downloading it, it is deleted.

There is still no word if they will be offereing a new reward program for uploaders. It is still a wait and see situation.


Edit: Happy hour i think is still in effect. Meaning from 2am (GMT) each night for like 8 hours the downloaded traffic is recorded at 1/10 of what it should, meaning if you download 10gb after 2am its only recorded as 1gb. SO if you download only at night after 2am (GMT) you have 300gb on your 99c account.



On a personal note: it now means if i dont download more than 30gb (lets face it i prob will lol) i have enough rapids for 38 standard months lol

But more seriously it also means i cant keep all my uploads securely. So from now on if the file isnt downloaded after 60 days it will be gone, little heads up to u all in the months to come lol

Well I'm glad they turned things a bit back to normal again.
But why did they change the whole system in the first place?

The new new system sounds reasonable. Before the change my subscription would have expired July 3rd. Now it lasts for 29 more days. So, it looks o.k. to me.

But on second thought they're a company founded to make money. I'm sure they are counting on the downloaders who are extending their 30 GB limit. Bet the statistics say the average downloader gets more than 30 GB a month. (Like some well known and respected Irishman...).
