In a past life my favorites were...

Brandy...

1. Anno Domini Brandy

2. Asbach Uralt Brandy

Whiskey...

1. Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey

2. Makers Mark

Bourbon Whiskey...

1. Knobb Hill Bourbon

2. Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon

Tequila...

1. Don Eduardo

2. Cuevro anejo

And with white liquors and rums just about anything would do...

Scotch is the only whisky without the "e" I think

The difference between Irish whiskey and Scotch whiskies

· The big difference between Scotch and Irish whiskey is the distilling phase which is made twice with Scotch and three times with Irish, giving Irish whiskey a particular lightness

· Scotch whisky first allows the barley to sprout and then it is dried. Irish whiskey uses raw and malted barley while Scotch is entirely malted barley. (This is partly because there was an extra tax on malt in Ireland)

· Scotch barley is dried with peat smoke which gives the usual scotch aroma to whisky.

· Scotch is cask aged for at least 2 years, Irish at least 3 years.

· Irish whiskey is distilled three times in larger than normal copper "pot" stills. The pot stills and the extra distillation produce a uniquely delicate drink. Developing later, Scotch uses continuous process stills.

· The rural poor, in Ireland, made whiskey first. The logic is whiskey developed in a bread eating culture. You grow grain, mill it for bread and save some to sow next year's crop. In good seasons when you have extra, you make whiskey.

· The Irish invented it, but Scotland is the spiritual home of whiskey

Thank you for my new task oh great master.

Well in terms of legal definitions, in order for a whiskey to be a "Bourbon" it must be made in the United States, produced from a mash containing a minimum of 51 percent corn, distilled at less than 160 proof or 80 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and must be aged at least two years in new charred- oak barrels (though most Bourbon is aged longer).

Whereas, Tennessee Whiskey by law must be made in Tennessee, produced from a mash of at least 51 percent corn, distilled at less than 160 proof or 80 percent ABV, filtered through a column of charcoal made from Tennessee sugar maple trees and aged for a minimum of two years in new charred barrels.

But then everybody knows that!

In terms of personal taste and enjoyment....give me a Jim Beam or Wild Turkey over a Jack Daniels anyday.

According to their ad I was looking at waiting for a London tube train the other week, Jack Daniels sell their used barrels to the Scotch industry as they only use them once (as mentioned above).

"Scotch with coke is the only way I drink it. Are there better ways to drink scotch?"

NOOOO!! Sorry but as a purist there is only ONE WAY - Neat, maybe with ice ..but drunk quickly so as not to water it down. If you need to use a mixer you are drinking the wrong whisky!!

Neat single malts ...you know it makes sense.
