Thanking before watching ?

"Thank you" is supposed to be gesture of appreciation. As soon as it becomes a requirement in order to get something, it becomes more like paying a fee.

If I went to a lot of trouble putting together a video, and someone downloaded it, viewed it, and didn't like it, would I expect them to give me Thank You points? Certainly not. If you are going to have a system like that, call it something else. Call it "virtual payment" or "post credits" or something, rather than "Thanks", which should be something one person says to another when they feel motivated to do so.

Right. I'm perplexed by people hiding streaming vids too... Streaming is something you can watch on many sites. Why would you have to thank on GH for something you can freely watch elsewhere ? :no:

I know this has been said before, but before everyone gets heated over it again -

The Thanks button is an easy available means in the software to use to uncover hidden links. I know some might use it in pointless cirstances but in general the facility was created so links could have an added hidden feature. It's convenient to use the software that's already here. I don't see how one quick mouse click equates to paying a fee ) No money has changed hands, unless you're addicted to adding up stats for flow chart presentations it's hardly a big deal

Does anybody really look at or care about the number of "thanks" you or anybody else has anyway ? Just don't look

I haven't seen that myself, but if that's happening then I think it's a real abuse of the system that mods should step in to rectify.

I thanks when I like something and I also thanks to acknowledge somebody's post whether I agree with it or not. The fact that we are sitting behind our computer (or in my case behind way too many computers) doesn't remove the etiquette that when someone post something a certain acknowledgement should be provided. We call this netiquette. I teach my children to always be polite in any cirstances and even when they are behind their laptops I don't want any of them to lack respect to another person because a ocean separate them.

As far as streaming videos - unpredicktable's work has been greatly appreciated - I skip through a clip to get kind of a screenshot of it. If it looks like something I wish to view completely I will thank prior to viewing. I thank prior to downloading clips because I want to thank the person for the clip and if I wait till after the clip is downloaded I would have to relogin - it takes a little time for me to download - just easier that way. I can gat a very good idea of what I'll enjoy by the screencaps so total viewing for thanking purposes is not needed. Maybe I've spent too much time looking at screencaps and clips hmmm.

I like to thank people when they post something that I would like to see more of. I think it's interesting and surprising to see how many thanks some posts receive. Hiding the links doesn't bother me as much as hiding which service they're using. At least you don't have to send a private message to someone to beg them for the links, which is happening in another small forum that is getting ever smaller.

Agreed. But also, you should not expect people to "Thank" for something that they didn't like or did not find particularly useful. Doing so devalues the concept.

My guess is that this refers to the recent problems with PimpAndHost rather than a deliberate hiding of s/caps

I'm somebody who uses the thanks-hide button in my posts.
Why? Because it's easy to see what movies are popular and non-popular. Especially if you use more than one filehost. That way I know what I should be uploading more of.

But klicking a button isn't a real thank you, I know that. If there are people on this forum that think it's a real thank you, they should go see a shrink.
Perhaps it might be better to change the name of the button from Thanks to something else like Unhide.

And I alwayse post videothumbs and one or more screenshots. So if you look at them you should at least have some idea if you are going to like it or not.

The thanks button has a major disadvantage as well. There aren't a lot of people who post a real thank you because of this button. These thanks are really nice and they keep the thread alive in the forum, which ultimately leads to more people downloading my good porn.

Hmmm...I need to learn to use search. I missed this thread before I posted my redundant one.

I'm still deciding whether to hide my posts. What I would really like to see is that all links are hidden unless you become a member of the community and then let posters decide if they want to require a further "Thanks" to see the link.

I will be hiding any links if i start seeing uploads removed by the hoster or get any notifications from moderators here of complaints by studios.

As far as the Hide/Thanks feature, I think its a good idea. Mainly because of reasons that have already been mentioned, but aloso it gives me an idea of what people are into DLing. Im not very active on this forum but am getting back into the swing of things and should be putting all my posts ive made on here as well. Thats my 2 cents

I'm neutral on it. If a post requires 'thanks' then I hit the button if it looks interesting. What I find humorous is there sure are a lot of twink lovers here on GB. When a twinky type clip is pasted up, there are always 200 thank yous. But if something like a clip from "O!der 4 Mee is posted it gets maybe 2 thank yous. Looks like us daddy and bear lovers are way out of the mainstream.

I agree, the only reason other than ego i can think of would be for the sake of tracking the number of times it was downloaded. But even then you could just check that from the server account :/ Is really irritating. Like so many videos have hidden content, you can't really judge from the screen clips and you end up with a video thats not really worth watching...
