The first ad to show full frontal male nudity comes not surprisingly from France and Yves Saint Laurent, supported by the brand's openly gay American creative director, Tom Ford.
The black-and-white ad stars martial arts champion Samuel de Cubber seductively laying on the floor naked. Ford noted in a press statement, "Perfume is worn on the skin, so why hide the body?" He has also said that the M7 ad was homage to a 1971 picture of Saint Laurent posing naked -- though with his legs modestly crossed -- for photographer Jeanloup Sieff. It is also intended to "remind people of how shocking and provocative the (design) house has always been."
In the U.S., the ad has been cropped (mid-organ) for magazines like GQ and W but has not been considered for gay media.
