The Northwest Angle

I found this cute video about The Northwest Angle in Minnesota, USA. It's the mistake in border drawing that gives Minnesota that Teapot look. I think it would be fun to make a travel trip to all the weird little nuances in borders like this. There is Stephens Point in Washington state, the Kentucky Bend in Kentucky, and Lake Carter in Iowa. There are more and it would be fun to visit them.

Reminds me of Point Roberts, WA. They're the only exclave on the U.S. mainland. Gotta cross through Canada to exit/enter it.

We got a little spot like that around here. You don't have to cross an international border to get there, but you do cross the state line. It's just a little 3 to 5 acre plot on a peninsula on the Ohio River. But it's also where the LST is docked So you have to go from Indiana to Kentucky, back to Indiana. And when you board the boat, you're back in Kentucky again. The state line also runs down the middle of the marina and right through a marine shop. This is all because the river, which is what was used to define the border in 1792, has changed coarse over the years. The two states fought over the boundary until 1980, when the Supreme Court ordered the Army Corp of Engineers to examine river charts to determine the actual coarse of the river in 1792 and draw the state line along the low water mark on the Indiana side of the river...

I once had an engine fire in my car in this area. They sent the fucking U.S. Army to take an accident report because they couldn't decide if Indiana or Kentucky had jurisdiction...
