Perhaps you know his film "DIE SPUR DER STEINE" from 1966, which was banned in the so called "GDR" because of "anti-socialist tendencies" after it was running only for three days in east German movie-theaters. After now 50 years always a movie worth watching.

Sure I know it. It is a delightful film about life (socialism) in GDR, directed by Frank Beyer, possibly the most successful filmmaker from the GDR. After ''The Trace of Stones'' was banned, Frank Beyer’s career as a director came to an abrupt halt. In 1975, he returned to feature films with a bang: ''Jakob the Liar'' - his first feature film since The Trace of Stones - was the first and only East German film to be nominated for an Academy Award.

After now 50 years always a movie worth watching.

Agree, it's a German cinema classic!
