I must be in the minority for I never watch Top Gear. The presenters are extremely awful.I gave up driving many years ago when I left the forces so have no interest in cars. That may be why but Clarkson & co really put me off.As I think of it there are some real arseholes 0n TV. I hate Claudia Winkleman,Zoe Ball & Tess daly too.Is it a generation thing?Getting old i guess.

I actually like Top Gear, it's a very blokey programme, and the last bastion of politcal incorrectness :p

I don't take it too seriously, my only problem with it is the way incidents are so obviously set up, but take it with a pinch of salt, it's just men being boys :p

I like Top Gear too. It all seems a bit mischievous work or drunken talk in a pub. It is a bit of cabaret for people who like cars. In The Netherlands we had a man who did that the same way with high society people. Very funny.
At least I don't think they get sponsored the way most of the car-programs are. Normally the factory who pays the best price gets the best recommendations.
But for people who are interested in Technics, Wheeler Dealers is a better program. The only disadvantage there is that they act as if it is peanuts to loosen old bolts or nuts. When you work yourself on old vehicles, you know that such an item can cost you hours of hard labor. They seem to have magic fingers.

I enjoy Top Gear, it's entertaining as much as it is informative. Trying watching the US version if you want truly awful television.

I love Top Gear, maybe you just don't understand the humour or banter. Watch the hour long special editions. They're much easier to get into and film in some of the most exotic locations racing the hottest cars.

Other than the cars, the political incorrectness is exactly why I love Top Gear. It a refreshing change given the current TV climate...

The problem with the American version, is that they are too PC. And the fact that the presenters don't have the same rapport as their UK counterparts...

P.S. I always refer to the US presenters as The Douche, The Dork, and The Dweeb...

Top Gear is a light entertainment show with some very lovable bafoons that just happens to have a car theme. It's really not a car show at all, and it's most certainly very entertaining. In recent years they've also started to take on some really big challenges - how many other TV presenters of Clarkson's vintage could drive a real car to the real north pole?

Or cross a war torn desert in a two-seat roadster with racially offensive modifications...

I really hate the way US TV stations think that they need to re-make good shows from around the world instead of just buying them and airing them. Do they think Americans are too dumb to understand a British accent perhaps?

There are many UK shows that US studios buy and air here...

Sherlock Holmes
Merlin
Doctor Who
Downtown Abby...

But.. It would not make any sense for them to air Top Gear UK here because 90% of the cars featured are not even available here. It would be nearly impossible for them to find enough sponsors to cover the cost, let alone make a profit...

I'd rank Top Gear as a guys comedy with cars. I don't see how that humour would translate Stateside but it happens to be the number one most pirated TV show on the Internet so clearly there's an interest. Jeremy Clarkson is very politically incorrect and it's probably the last remaining show where a bunch of guys can race cars, sound off and tell it as it is. It's a quite a macho show for those who are into that.

Ouch...

What you Europeans seem to miss is the fact that American cars are made for American roads. The vast majority of our highways are flat and straight. What good does a car that corners do us? The important thing is that we don't spill our coffee, drop the cell phone, or make the Disney DVD playing for the kids in the back seat skip while we drive...

And let's not forget that I drive the epitome of everything that's wrong with American cars...

A 1978 Lincoln Towncar. It's big, heavy, drives like a waterbed, gets shitty gas mileage and you can apply eye liner while blasting down the highway at 100 mph...

Jeremy Clarkson on the Lincoln (too bad he doesn't know the difference between a 70's Lincoln and a 1984 model...)

Hehe, now I know what "top gear" is. :D

I've downloaded a rather nice amount of rather different music (250 pieces perfect for films that you know from several films) some years ago under the name "top gear".

I thought it was some kind of tv show but I didn't bother to google it. Never guessed it was a car comedy. :D

I wish it was a lot easier to watch the UK version here in the US. I went through all of them on Netflix pretty fast.

I thought BBC iPlayer was coming to the US and you got to watch all the UK shows for a cost? I thought that was a great idea and it would be great for US shows to be immediately available in the UK

Edit: It seems the roll out is limited to Europe right now on a subscription basis with specific content. I still think the best way to catch BBC stuff is through the torrent site. There's not 'lost revenue' as such as they're just TV shows.
