I am a bit a digital moron. You know maybe the expression “he was stuck in the sixties”, well I am one of those Neanderthals. The Abacus is a high tech. instrument for me. But I got a mail, a warning, when you get a mail with 'Postcard From Hallmark', from a friend or whatever, do not open it. This contains one of the most dangerous viruses ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I am just saying what is told to me.

No, you're a Nederlandthal :p

These things are as bad as viruses, the number of people over the years I've told to stop forwarding these to me, I think the message finally got through.

They're hoaxes designed to just clog up the internet because they make people forward them on to everyone they know. Anything that has that kind of wording or "McAfee and AOL have only just found out about it" or "It'll wipe everything in your computer" is a hoax! They do the rounds and keep doing the rounds.

If it came to you in an email, it's probably a scam.

Anything with so many exclamation marks is always suspect.

Also - wouldn't the most dangerous virus ever have made it onto, say, the news?

Keep your machine update, run a reputable AV and keep it update, and never click on links in emails and you'll be grand.

No need to panic people with poorly sourced non-information.

I use to get these from my well meaning family. If you copy and paste the title in the email into google, you'll find numerous reports of the scam.

Indeed - and what's worse is that some of these warnings are actually a manual form of virus themselves! They tell you to search for a file with an obscure name, which you will find, and then tell you to delete it. What they don't tell you is that it's an important Windows system file, so you literally destroy your own computer by following emails forwarded on by well meaning people!

Take security advice from places like www.us-cert.gov, not from your inbox!

ok babe...whats Neanderthal? you excepting what they told you?:( lol

The Neanderthal - Homo neanderthalensis – is an extinct human race (exit about 30.000 before Christ). They probably developed from the - Homo heidelbergensis – about 500.000 before Christ. Whatever they were, they were Homo (Gay), so there must be some familiarity.

Actually the warning was on Dutch television (kassa, a consumers program). My computer knowledge is very limited. You can compare me with a car driver who manages to keep things going without knowing how the machinery works. On that point my last activities ended with writing software with Algol. Years before Ms-Dos became popular. We used punch cards in those days.

TV is not immune from being wrong :)

Algo - I'm impressed - that's hard-core :)
