My internet was out this morning for around 5 hours I have to say i really didn`t know what to do with myself I look at the newpaper and just watch tv.

every min i was feeling dumber and dumber b/c i just could not access the info i need.

Anyway what would have been a better use of my time then just sitting around waiting for the net to come back on.

If you live in the US and haven't already done so, there's always your income taxes.

Well when my internet is down my tv often goes with it. Then I am left trying to get my roommates to talk to me. If they are home, one is usually reading, the other is trying to get away from me because I talk too much for him ( he wants to live in the net so he doesn't have to interact with real people). If it is not during work hours (I don't work because I am disabled) I can usually get some friends together for tabletop roleplaying games.

I woke up on Thursday to find no internet at all - panic!

Scarily enough, I found out the net was down before even getting out of bed - tried to check my mail from my iPad - connection error, iPhone, same. Peered over the banisters of the stairs to look at the DSL modem next to the front door - two flashing lights I'd never seen before. Rang my ISP - after some debugging we decided the modem was dead, and it was up to me to buy a new one because the 1 year warranty was over. They would only support NetGear or ZyXEL. Off I went, before breakfast, to the only local computer shop - they had a grand total of TWO DSL modems, and none from NetGear or ZyXEL - nooooooooooo

Then I remembered that I still had a really old modem from my last ISP - we're talking 11 years old here! But it was a ZyXEL, I called support again and they were able to help me get it up - panic over, till I realised I was running at half speed - turns out the modem is slower than our DSL line! Used the slow connection to order a new modem from the internet, so I've been running at half speed all weekend - the new modem is due to be delivered tomorrow - fingers crossed!

So - what do I do when the internet goes down? Panic, then phone my ISP, then do everything I can to get re-connected!

So very very much of what I do relies on that connection to the world - I'm totally lost without it!

When the power goes I always than the heavens that the iPad has a 10 hour battery so I know I can play some games till the electricity comes back :)

I'm always tempted to cough up for a tethering plan for my iPhone when ever the net goes down - so far I've been able to resist - JUST!

I don't have internet or cable tv at home, just at work.

At home I read, listen to music, or watch movies and tv shows on Blu-ray or DVD, or I watch my computer porn collection.

At work if the internet goes out (luckily it has only happened once in the last two years, and that was actually a problem with our hub, not the ISP) it's my job to get it back, whether that's fixing/changing hardware, getting on the phone with the ISP, or whatever. No one else here is the least bit tech-savvy, so it's up to me to figure out what's going on. If it's actually the ISP, then our phones are out, too, since we get all services (phone, tv, internet) from one company. Then we sit around waiting for it to come back after we report the outage via cell phone. A few years ago when that happened, I took the opportunity to do a complete warehouse inventory, while everyone else whined about no internet.

Read, anything but romance novels. Since I consider most television to be a waste of time these days if I'm not on the net I have a book in my hands anyway.

It's such a well crafted show, the documentary style camerawork, the great cast, and Aaron Sorkin is rightly praised for creating the show and writing such a fantastic script... I cannot pick any favourites, as you say all they are all good... I love the banter between Josh and Donna and Mrs.Landingham had some great lines scolding Josh Bartlet, usually about his inability to use the intercom or computer. I'm working through series 3 and it just keeps getting better.. and the beauty of having the box sets is I don't have to wait to see the next episode.:)
