UNDERGODS (2020)

An otherworldly journey through a Europe in decline - a collection of darkly humorous, fantasy tales about ill-fated characters and doomed fortune. A dystopian fantasy that weaves together three eerie tales of doomed modernity, framed by the day-to-day of two garbage men who collect corpses from the streets of a ruined estate.

Awful, I switched off at around 25/30mins.

This was a grey depressing experience - I saw this on All4 here in UK and the 2nd ad break had a trail for new movies being streamed - Venom; Let There Be Carnage; Free Guy; Top Gun Maverick. and this just reminded me how bright, fun and entertaining movies can be,

DETECTIVE KNIGHT : ROGUE (2022)

Bruce Willis stars as veteran Detective James Knight, dedicated to navigating the demanding streets of Los Angeles, in this thrilling first of a trilogy of films. As the city prepares for Halloween, mask-wearing armed robbers critically wound Knight's partner in a shootout following a heist. With Knight in hot pursuit, the bandits flee L.A. for New York, where the detective's dark past collides with his present case and threatens to tear his world apart... unless redemption can claim Knight first. Imdb

Not great, a pretty bad script and some poor acting. Bruce was suCuming to aphasia and dementia at the time and sadly it shows, he's not Die Hard's wise-cracking all action John McLane anymore. This was the 1st in a trilogy, I grabbed this and the 2nd one. I will give the next one Detective Knight; Redemption a watch but not sure if I will bother with No.3

THE BANKER (2020) ..... no trailer due to actor age.

In the 1960s, revolutionary businessmen Bernard Garrett and Joe Morris devise an audacious and risky plan to take on the racist establishment by helping other African Americans pursue the American dream. Along with Garrett's wife Eunice they train a working class white man, Matt Steiner to pose as the rich and privileged face of their burgeoning real estate and banking empire - while Garrett and Morris pose as a janitor and a chauffeur. Their success ultimately draws the attention of the federal government, which threatens everything they have built. IMDB

I knew nothing about this movie. I noticed it on a list of Nicholas Hoult movies and as it stars him along with Anthony Mackie; Nia Long; Samuel L Jackson & Colm Meaney I grabbed it. Good call as it is a really good film, the performances are all excellent (as you would expect) and it has a good script with some good wise-cracking between Jackson & Mackie. As to the plot well it's "Based on a true story" but I don't know closely they follow it. There are elements of such as Trading Places or Oceans 11 but with a more serious vibe. I enjoyed it - recommended

Watched 'Damsel' on Netflix (a mate and I do movie days every month) this was watched as there isn't much available at the mo due to the strike earlier.

Was OK, nothing much to write home about. Could have had more eye candy which would have made it better, if you have nothing else to watch, give it a go.

In a decrepit South American village, four men are hired to transport an urgent nitroglycerine shipment without the equipment that would make it safe. Imdb

THE BOOK OF CLARENCE (2023)

Struggling to find a better life, Clarence is captivated by the power of the rising Messiah and soon risks everything to carve a path to a divine existence. Imdb

As it's Easter Sunday I thought maybe a film with a suitable connected theme but I had rewatched DOGMA last week and LIFE OF BRIAN a few weeks before. I fancied a chariot race but didn't want Ben Hur and I fancied some sword & sandals action but didn't want Gladiator so time for this one maybe?

I really loved THE HARDER THEY FALL, a refreshing "modern" take on the Western. So when I saw that the british writer/director/musician of that roller-coaster ride of a movie, Jaymes Samuel had cast his eye on the biblical movie genre and was going to stick with some of the actors in his stable that had been in the western - LaKieth Stanfield; RJ Cyler and Chase Dillon and give cameo roles to James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch I was already in. Whilst it has the Jaymes Samuel vibe - characters smoking dope and a soundtrack with R&B and dub reggae, this one was a bit hit & miss and I was unsure if he he had planned for a satirical comedy or a thought provoking thesis on belief. I did enjoy it but it could have been better if they had kept their focus on what they wanted to achieve.

THE NICE GUYS (2016)

In 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star. Imdb

This action/crime/comedy stars Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe. I switched it off at around 45 mins

TRADERS (2015)

What if it made perfect sense for ordinary people to kill each other for money? Better than slow grinding financial ruin and misery, and all done according to a strict code by consenting adults. This is Trading. Imdb

This Irish movie is a dark comedic satire. I was led to it as it stars Killian Scott who I enjoyed in the tv series Love/Hate and he's very good in this too. John Bradley (Sam in G.O.Thrones) and Nika McGuigan (daughter of boxer Barry) co-star and until I saw his name on screen at the beginning I didn't know that Barry Keoghan is in this too. It has a macabre plot and is quite violent but even I wasn't expecting how the last 15mins were to play out.
.......................
This must be the week for seeing movies with guys from Love/Hate in as not only Killian in tonights movie but Tom Vaughan-Lawlor played Antonius in sundays Book Of Clarence.

SUMMER OF '85 (2020)... original title Été 85

A French coming-of-age movie about Alexis & David. It was OK, my enjoyment hampered by some chunks of dialgue not having any subtitles and also at times the subtitles on screen were about 20secs ahead of the dialogue.

JOYRIDE (2022) ... no trailer due to actor age

A headstrong solicitor's plan to offload her new born baby to her sister, is derailed when a vulnerable but opinionated teenager steals their taxi. Imdb

The synopsis above was all I knew about this movie - plus that it stars Olivia Coleman, which was a good enough reason to grab a copy. I enjoyed it, Coleman was excellent as was Charlie Reid who played the young car-jacker. As to the plot well it went off in ways I wasn't expecting and in the end the movie could be described as a feel-good; lighthearted; bittersweet; odd-couple road movie but uneven and with some darker themes.

This film I've watched some months ago. For me/us it was simply great. But we could watch it German dubbed. And in my opinion every film from Francois Ozon is a great film!

COMA (2019)

(not just a trailer but the opening WTF? 8mins of the movie and then the trailer)

After a mysterious accident, a young architect comes back to his senses in a very odd world. He must find out the exact laws and regulations of it while he fights for his life and keeps looking for an exit to the real world. Imdb

People have said this Russian scf-fi/ dystopian fantasy has elements and the vibe of Inception meets Adjustment Bureau & Matrix but as you will see if you take a look at the YTub clip it is not just a copy. I got flashbacks to Tarsem Singhs wonderfully wacko THE CELL as well. Visually stunning and with an atmospheric sound design. It has it's flaws, the pacing in the 2nd half is a bit clunky and I am glad I decided to watch it without having a few glasses of wine as keeping track of the surreal plot would have been tricky.

DUNE Part 2 (2024)

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Imdb

What to say about the part 2 movie of an unfilmable novel? It's cinematically wonderful with a gorgeous star in tight leather trousers sound track. It's what Aliens was to Alien in that it cranks it up and makes it more than just nuns and sand..... (and Timotee Shampoo)

.... Part 3 is apparently titles Dune: Messiah so no clue there as to where the plot is heading lol

I'm not sure since I haven't seen the remake, but the original was available on one of my streaming services. I liked it. It was great cheesy, 80's cinema, and another bonus you get to see Patrick's bare bootie. LOL
Thanks for your answer. Then I've watched some days ago the remake with Jake Gyllenhaal and you the original with Patrick Swayze. Well in some days I will watch the original as well. But this one war too really great. A beating orgy from its finest! Not a film for the Oscars but for your enjoyment!
