So, you're not sure that Anora is gonna to win Best picture?!

Same thoughts. Anora just doesn't seem likely to be the type to win picture....BUT I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t pick up Adapted Screenplay.

I have only seen 3 of the other movies nominated for Best Picture and don't want to watch any of the others apart from maybe I'm Still Here. I think all of those I have seen, Dune Pt 2; The Substance & Conclave would be more worthy of winning than Anora, especially the jaw-dropping The Substance which I absolutely loved - an astonishing movie.

THE ORDER (2024 - USA)

In 1983, a series of increasingly violent bank robberies, counterfeiting operations and armored car heists frightened communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. As baffled law enforcement agents scrambled for answers, a lone FBI agent (Law), stationed in the sleepy, picturesque town of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, came to believe the crimes were not the work of traditional, financially motivated criminals but a group of dangerous domestic terrorists, inspired by a radical, charismatic leader (Hoult), plotting a devastating war against the federal government of the United States. (IMdB)

Wow, since a very long time again a film which will make you speechless. It is a true story from 1983/1984, but sometimes
I could believe that this story happened too in 2025. Will that be really the USA? Or better asked: could that be the
USA from today? Has something changed in the last 40 years?
Please, if you can, watch this film. It is really very recommended!

I haven't watched this yet but have a copy of this on my USB - in the Nicholas Hoult section.

NEVER GROW OLD (2019) ... no trailer die to actor age

An Irish undertaker profits when outlaws take over a peaceful American frontier town, but his family comes under threat as the death toll rises. Imdb

This western popped up on the All4 streaming service here in the UK. It stars Emile Hirsch and John Cusack. A lot of it takes place at night so dark rooms lit by flaming torches which got irritating very soon, then I switched off. Maybe they should have called it "Never got going"

GOLDEN YEARS (2016)

Retired couple Arthur and Martha take up bank robbery after their pensions are cut, refusing to accept the injustice of their situation. Imdb

This gentle comedy (currently on the R@kutenTV platform) stars Bernard Hill; Virginia Mc Kenna; Phil Davis; Sue Johnson; Mark Williams; Una Stubbs; Simon Callow. I was tired and didn't want anything too demanding and this was ideal.

The Longest Day (1962) The story of D-Day with an all-star cast. One of the better war movies.
The black and white ones are the best. The movie was a great success which is unusual for one with no emotional manipulation, it is all hard cold reality. They took a big risk making it that way, the gamble paid off well.

NOSFERATU (2024)

A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. Imdb

It was all done very well, the acting; script, cinematography, soundtrack and the cast - including Nicholas Hoult; Bill Skarsgard & William Dafoe. At the end of the 2hr 12mins my main thought was "Was yet another version of this story really necassary?".... Maybe if they had updated it from 1830's Germany to the 2020's and The Count was obsessed with cute twinks with blond buzz-cuts and boxer-briefs I might have been more interested.;) (I would have liked to hear the Count said things like "Around the ragged ruby red rock the ragged rascal ran"

WOLF MAN (2025)

A family at a remote farmhouse is attacked by an unseen animal, but as the night stretches on, the father begins to transform into something unrecognizable. Imdb

Dull, I managed about 30 mins before hitting the off button...

The Petrified Forest 1936
This was the movie that made Humphrey Bogart into a star. The story is played out almost entirely in a single simple set so it is totaly dependent on the quality of the acting. That acting is superb. If you like old black and white flicks, this is unmissable.
