OK so not to everyone's taste - as this 1984 classic has no car chases; fights; CGI effects etc …… just a quirky story, well told, beautifully filmed and with an atmospheric soundtrack from the steel guitar of Ry Cooder.

Directed by Wim Wenders and starring the late-great (and IMHO always watchable) Harry Dean Stanton; Dean Stockwell & Nastassja Kinski

It's a long film that moves at a slow pace but worth a watch.

Check-out the opening scene above. No trailer as such this time due to there being a young boy in the movie but here's a plot summary

The plot focuses on a vagabond named Travis who, after mysteriously wandering out of the desert in a dissociative fugue, attempts to reunite with his brother and seven-year-old son . After reconnecting with his son, Travis and the boy end up embarking on a voyage through the American Southwest to track down Travis' long-missing wife.

At the 1984 Cannes Film Festival, the film won the Palme d'Or from the official jury, as well as the FIPRESCI Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. It went on to win other honors and critical acclaim

I agree, it really was a classic movie that deserved all its accolades.

A very good film. Based "on true events" i.e the attack on the Boston Marathon but how much is factual and how much is Hollywood invented for plot development I cannot say …. worth watching though. Amongst others it stars Mark Wahlberg and John Goodman so is very useful for the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" game :)

So (deliberately) no trailer this time.. too much plot given away.

I came to this having seen no trailer or review and, from the dvd cover, was expecting a not very interesting "shoot-em-up/action/hitman type of thing". I was wrong!

I am happy to report that this is much better than I was expecting, 20 mins in I'm thinking " where is this going", 40 mins in "where is this going?"

It's not a Hollywood classic or Oscar winner but well worth a watch. The cast, particularly Ben Affleck & JK Simmons do a great job with the plot/script - I realised the "twist" about 20 mins before the reveal but so what?

Give it a go!

This movie does not get the credit it deserves. Not to mention Jon Bernthal steals every scene he is in.
