In 1952 the match could be interesting if the Hotchkiss was not 2 times more expensive than the Citroën.

Citroën 2 CV : The little story of a little car (1948 - 1990)


From the first to the last

1939 : This TPV (très petite voiture) is the 2 CV model 1940 as we should have seen it if the motorshow had not been canceled because of the war.

1948 : The 2 CV is presented to the astonished president Vincent Auriol by Pierre Boulanger, Citroën president and also the father of this kinky vehicle. The bonnet of the three 2CV is plumbered.

1949 : At last we can see the mechanical!

At this age, it was yet some greasing points.

At the motorshow 1949, the French president was no more there, one time it was enough!

2 CV A 1950 : 375 cm3 - 9 ch - 65 km/h

1951, the van.

1955 : 2 CV AZ : 425 cm3 - 12 ch - 80 km/h - Centrifugal clutch and lateral indicators.

1957 : 2 CV AZL, L for luxious (!)

1958 : 2 CV AZLP, P for "porte de malle" (door of trunk)

Paris motorshow 1958 : 2 CV 4x4 or 2 CV Sahara : 2 motors flat-twin 425 cm3 - 2 gear boxes - 24 ch - 100 km/h
Marketed only in 1961

Summer 1960 : At the old Levallois factory, there is no more room for the new cars that are parked everywhere in the streets and at the Seine side.

1961 : new bonnet

1963 : 2 CV AZA and AZAM are added to 2 CV AZLP : 425 cm3 - 18 ch - 95 km/h - new dashboard with electric fuel gauge and wipe. The interior above is the one of a model AZAM, a luxious version inspired by the Ami 6.

1965 : At last, front doors open in the right way!

1966 : 6 lateral windows, new grill

Spring 1967 : Still more luxious, the 2 CV Export, made during 6 months and stopped with the arrival of the Dyane.

1968-70 : Only one 2 CV AZL without modification at the catalog. Some think that the model is out.

Spring 1970 : 2 CV 4 : 435 cm3 - 24 ch - 102 km/h
2 CV 6 : 602 cm3 - 28.5 ch - 110 km/h
Two new models powered by Dyane 4 and Dyane 6 engines with a finition between 2 CV AZL and Export.
1975 : Rectangular headlights
1976 : New 2 CV Special, a 2 CV 4 basic version that is a return ten years back with four windows body and old dashboard. Only one color, yellow "cedrat". And why not a 375 cm3 motor?
Six month after this downscale version, the constructor try to kickstart the "true" 2 CV, the 435 cm3 version, with the first limited serie, the 2 CV Spot.

1980 : 2 CV Special become 2 CV 6 Special and 2 CV 6 become 2 CV 6 Club. 435 cm3 flat-twin is stopped.
602 cm3 - 29 ch - 115 km/h

1981 : Limited serie 2 CV 6 Charleston that will become a real version, remaining at the catalog until the end.

1983 : France 3
1985 : Dolly
1986 : Cocorico

Last 2 CV is a Charleston model grey/black made at Mangualde in Portugal.
