It's not just the artistic ability with some of these pavement artists (as if that wasn't enough!.) What gets me is the perspective that has to be applied on top of that - like on some televised sports where sponsors logos are painted on the field... take a look at this globe - seen from the perspective of an approaching pedestrian:
