Help!

I'm in the UK, and today whenever I try to visit Gayheaven I get redirected to my isp's (Virgin) search page which is telling me that www.gayheaven.org doesn't exist. Does this mean that Virgin is blocking me from this website? I'm reluctant to phone and ask them, because it means having to discuss this website, which I don't want to do given the nature of Gayheaven.

I managed to slip through using a proxy server, but unfortunately I'm not able to download anything with a proxy server. So basically, I'm fucked!

Has this happened to anyone else? What is the best way around it -- other than changing my isp?

Any input would be appreciated.

I'm here in the USA and Comcast is doing the same. A Comcast page comes up (not every time, but often) and says "www.gayheaven.org does not exist." This just started happening on May 4, 2011.

Sounds like they start censorship in the land of the free. They are probably only blocking the resolving of the domain name. Try to use an alternative free dns server and see if that works. To find one, google for "free dns server" or go here:

http://anonym.to/?http://theos.in/windows-xp/free-fast-public-dns-server-list/

Write down one DNS server ip adress. Then enter the ip adress as your computer's DNS server. Here's the way how to do that:

http://anonym.to/?https://store.opendns.com/setup/computer/

Now check if it works and please report back here!

I think you are experiencing server problems. As far as I know there is nothing blocked and we have members and staff from many countries.

I've had a few problems recently but just slowness at times. If we know more we'll let you know, but I suspect it's just a delay contacting the server and so you get redirected to the default search page.

I have just experienced this as well and I am in Australia.

There are some very odd things to relate:

1) According to my PC, www.gayheaven.org does not exist. This was after checking the following nameservers: localhost.localdomain, my ISP, and openDNS.
2) I was on Recon at the time and a user in the UK reported that he was able to access the site no probs.
3) I logged on to my workplace and it recognised www.gayheaven,org and returned the IP address. I don't know what nameservers it checks, probably a large number.
4) Further experimentation revealed that gayheaven.org (without the www) was recognised, but this was no help to me because when I enter that in the browser address field the www is inserted automatically.
5) I tried logging on via anonymouse.org and was unsuccessful the first time, but successful on the second try.

I eventually seem to have fixed the problem by putting the following line in my /etc/hosts file:

80.179.154.41 www.gayheaven.org

With this in place, Firefox gets the IP address directly from this file without having to go to my ISP or elsewhere.

This is on a Linux system. I don't know what the corresponding file is under Windows but it will be something similar.

Hope this helps. Glad to see it wasn't just me getting a problem.

I've been having issues all day. I managed to log in using a proxy. I'll have to try some of the suggestions presented in this thread.

Where is gayheaven hosted? By which I mean, where is the server physically located on the planet?

I've investigated this problem and it appears Google is now blocking certain adult sites like GH. Now you might say, "but I don't use Google to get to GH."

Google handles DNS pre-fetching for most ISPs, even if you personally don't use Google.

If you disable DNS pre-fetching in your browser, you'll probably have no problem reaching GH and any other porn site you want to visit.

Google really bother me. In the early days of home computing, IBM were the company everyone loved to hate. During the 1980s, Microsoft took over that mantle. Now that Open Source is starting to proliferate and the Internet is everywhere, Microsoft are a little less dominant and Google have their fingers in EVERYTHING. I can't be the only person who is disturbed by the prospect of one huge multinational company "organising the world's information" as they coyly put it.

After Google being my default search engine for many years, I'm thinking of giving Bing a try.

Unless I'm barking up the wrong tree here, I just did a search in Google for Gayheaven - and top of the list is this site and a simple click I was on the homepage.

Maybe it's just a temporary blip. I had no problems this evening, but I did this morning.

A little while ago I was able to access the site normally, and even added a video to one of my threads, but when I went to add one to another thread, I couldn't access the site once again. Luckily, I had 'copied' the content of the new post before submitting, so when I went back to using a proxy, I was able to easily add to my thread by pasting my text and picture and video links into a new post.

I'm still using the proxy now. At least I can read the forum and make posts, but it's still frustrating! I didn't realize how dependent I had become on Gay Heaven! :blushing:

This definitely sounds like DNS problems of some sort.

You can of course take DNS out of the equation by using your hosts file as described by jeansGuyOZ.

The same file exists in Windows, but it's located at:

%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (on most systems %SystemRoot% is C:\ so for most people the file is at C:\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, but of you installed windows to another drive then use that drive letter)

Mac users will find the file in the standard Linux/Unix location of /etc/hosts, but they won't see the file in the Finder because it's hidden, and even if they navigate to it using the Go → Go to Folder ... menu item they won't be able to save it because they won't have permission to edit the file.

Don't fear though, you can still edit it if you really want to, and if you are logged in with an admin account, it will require you to open a Terminal window though and copy and paste in this command:

sudo nano /etc/hosts

You'll be asked for a password, this is your regular login password on the Mac. The command will open a terminal based text editor where you can make what ever changes you want before hitting ctrl+x to exit (and hitting y when prompted to save your changes).

Hope that helps,

Bart.

Looks like classic DNS issue. I cant access GH from my main internet network but I can from my mobile. These things happen. May take 24-48 hours to resolve this am sure.

I'm also in the UK and my ISP is also Virgin.
I've been having the exact same problem since this afternoon, but I'm now slightly more relieved to hear that it wasn't just me...
I think we'll just have to be patient and wait.

The problem seems to be DNS related will probably fix itself in a day or so. Whatever dns server google is using is probably effected also. Pinging gayheaven.org resolves to the proper IP but www.gayheaven.org does not resolve at all, and that's where the problem is. Editing the host file as stated a few posts above will fix the problem. Thats what worked for me.

Same here. I have Cox (god, they suck) and I get the error saying the site doesn't exist. However, if I change my wireless to another account (other than my own), one that's apparently not password protected and lets me access it, I don't have any problems at all.

Weird.
