Daniel Kehlmann's >Measuring the World< (German novel of 2006). Excellent. Also Australian writer Roger MacDonald's >Mr. Darwin's Shooter< about Syms Covington who assisted Darwin in his discoveries. Interesting homoerotic overtones throughout.
