Old - written & directed by M Night Shyamalan.

No YTube clip due to age of actors

If The Twighlight Zone had done a remix of The Beach (the Leo Decaprio movie) it might look something like this.....

Basic premise is a group from a luxury hotel take a day trip to a secluded beach where they begin to age rapidly and they find they cannot leave... what is going on? who or what is behind it?

So a typical creepy/sinister/spooky M Night Shyamalan film but not his best - not up there with 6th Sense or The Village, but better than After Earth (the awful Jaeden & Will Smith sci-fi tosh)

I gave up on this after about 40 mins (but I started getting bored at around 25/30 mins) I hadn't seen the trailer until posting it here and it looks like maybe the last 20 mins might have a bit more going on. I won't be going back to find out though.

Mmmm.... well the menu is full of preposterous poncey pompous un-fullfilling tosh - and so is The Menu. Eating this food would leave you hungry - and I sure felt like having a more fullfilling film moments after it had finished. Yeah I watched it 'til the end rather hoping something utterly awful would happen to all of the utterly awful characters - I should have sent it back after the starters and not stuck around until the dessert course.

I had a better time with the dull Smurfs Go Swimming - at least that was nice to look at.

I was aware that the Coen Bros. and Wes Anderson like to stick with a "stable" of actors.

Cinematic geniuses the Coen Bros. like to work with the likes of John Turturro; Frances McDormand; Josh Brolin; George Clooney & Tim Blake Nelson in many of their movies. Similarly the great Wes Anderson regularly works with such as Jeff Goldblum; Tilda Swinton; William Defoe; Angelica Huston; Bill Murray & Edward Norton.

But it only struck me this week, following my movie viewing that Martin McDonagh is heading the same way. In Bruges stars Colin Farrell; Brenda Gleeson and both appear in The Banshees of Inisherin with Kerry Condon who also appears in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Colin Farrell is also in 7 Psychopaths along with Woody Harrelson & Sam Rockwell who also star in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. And equalling Colin Farrell's appearances with 3 is Zeljko Ivanek who appears in In Bruges; 7 Psychopaths & Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

What I had forgotten (until I went to Ytube to find the trailer for In Bruges) was that his 1st film was a 26 min short "Six Shooter" starring Brendan Gleeson as Ken. who's wife had died in hospital. On a sad train journey home he encounters a strange and psychotic young oddball played by Rúaidhrí Conroy. It won the 2004 Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film in 2004. I saw it on Channel 4 here in UK a few years back but didn't realise the full 26min film has been on YTube for a while. It's definitely worth watching, the small cast are all good and the script is just what you would expect from Martin McDonagh - dark and comedic. Other links are the policeman here is the policeman in The Banshees Of Inisherin and if you have seen Seven Pyschopaths you will see a connection to the Tom Waits character. Odd that McDonagh has not worked with Rúaidhrí Conroy again as he's really good in this.

I cannot post the YouTube here as there is a short section with a young actor but go to YTube and search for Six Shooter short film and it should show on the top of the list

So I happened across this when checking on Jack O'Connel movies so knew nothing about it really other than it was something to do with memory loss. I think if I had read up more about it I might have given it a swerve but I hadn't and so gave it a watch. It was not what I was expecting - a "disaster movie" set around a young couple. Emma & Jude's meeting and falling in love is set against the backdrop of a pandemic disease that causes memory loss but they are very much up-front-and-centre. It is a bittersweet & melancholic story beautifully told, intimate cinematography with a gentle haunting score. The two leads Jack O'Connell and Olivia Cooke are excellent.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER OF MAUTHAUSEN a Spanish film from 2018. OMG I hope I can sleep now without horrible dreams.
It's the true story of the Spanish photographer Francisco Boix who came 1941 to the Konzentrationslager Mauthausen in Austria. There he was ordered to make photos. At the risk of his life he concealed many photos so he could prove after the liberation in 1945 all the horrible crimes. He himself died in 1951 in the age of 31 in Paris resulting from acute kidney failure because of his term of imprisonment in Mauthausen.

It is hard to watch this film. But it should be a brutal reminder! If you will be interested you should watch it. But remember, it is not a film to cuddle.

PLANE with Gerard Butler--decent movie but major goof at end of the movie

Viking Wolf --find english dubbed version--it was to bad of a movie-- if you like werewolves

the winchesters--season 1--prequal to supernatural--watch as sam and deans parent battle evil and fall in love--ok show but you know the future parents of sam and dean arent gonna die so part of the suspense is ruined by this fact

SICK--this movie was okuntil the reason why the killer killed people is revealed--then its like well--covid did it again--never forget to wearyour mask people

CARNIFEX--i actually liked this movie scary in places and suspenseful---one of the best thriller movies i have seen in a lng time

BLACK PANTHER 2-- i love how they remember the actor from the first black panther--after passing away in real life made them do few changes in the story--but its pretty predictable--and the new black panther shouldnt been who it was--other than that it was a decent movie

DEBORAH--watch out alexa--deborah has arrived--not only does she do everything alexa does--deborah also lets you rewind time few seconds or minutes at a time--interesting idea and good movie to watch at least once

The only reason for watching The Menu is called Nicholas Hoult...no need to say that ALL his movies come to my watch list

This was on All4 free streaming service here in UK and it's terrific. Based on a true story it's tense stuff about the press exposing political secrets about Vietnam. The cast, lead by Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are all good, the script is great and Spielberg directs.

Okay so to begin, as some of you will know I am a Wes Anderson fan... and you need to be a big one for this movie. It has all the hallmarks of one of his films, the obsessively symmetrical compositions, the gorgeous use of pastel colours, mininalist soundtrack; animation sequences and the usual stable of actors so we have Bill Murray; Benicio Del Toro; Tilda Swinton; Adrien Brody; Frances MacDormand; Edward Norton; Owen Wilson; Timotee Shampoo; Christoph Waltz; Angelica Houston; William Defoe; Saoirse Ronan; Jeffrey Wright and many others appearing either as cameos or more substantial parts.

This is gorgeous to look at and very funny in places and the animation sequences reminded me of the wonderful & innovative Isle Of Dogs but it lacks the linear story telling and the emotional pull of such as The Grand Budapest Hotel; Fantastic Mr Fox; Dajeeling Limited; Royal Tenenbaums or Moonrise Kingdom.

In a word (or two) - sadly dissappointing.

This time two movies:

1st --- ONE SHOT a predictable (and which action flick isn't predictable??) but nonetheless a very amusing and thrilling little film.
An elite squad of Navy SEAL's, on a covert mission to transport a prisoner off a CIA black site island prison, are trapped when insurgents attack while trying to rescue the same prisoner.

2nd --- SHE SAID
and this film was great. It's the Harvey Weinstein file. The story is nearly unbelievable!
New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who together broke one of the most important stories in a generation--a story that shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood and impelled a shift in American culture that continues to this day.
Very recommended!

The Angel's Share.

A Ken Loach film that he made when he was presumably in a lighthearted mood! (most of his movies are set in very bleak surroundings, usually dealing with grim subjects like addiction and unemployment) In this one, after narrowly escaping prison, having just become a father Robbie decides to find a way to get his life back on track. A chance visit to a whisky distillery, along with other former petty criminals Albert, Rhino & Mo, changes his life completely. A bittersweet comedy

I cannot post the trailer here so here's the opening shot, where we meet Albert

JoJo Rabbit - Directed and screenplay by Taika Waititi

No YTube trailer due to age of actors.

This was my 2nd viewing of this drama/comedy/satire and I'm just as unsure about it as I was the first time around. It is very satirical and at times very funny. It is also at times heartbreaking and jaw-dropping in it's subject matter. For those who may not know anything about it the basic story is "Jojo Betzler is a lonely German boy who discovers that his single mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his blind nationalism as World War II continues to rage on."

The movie walks a precarious tightrope between humour; bad taste; satire and pathos ... I'm not sure if it succeeds, it's a 50/50 split I think. It is well crafted and the cast, which includes Sam Rockwell; Scarlett Johannsson; Taika Waititi; Rebel Wilson & Stephen Merchant are all great - special mention for youngster Roman Griffin Davis who is really great, particularly as this was his first profession acting role as Jojo.

Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Tate & Chase, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear.........

Well it's beautifully filmed - but when we are not in the courtroom it's mostly set in marshes; swamp & beaches so that shouldn't be too difficult. I enjoyed it, although I did think the pace was a little slow at times. The cast are fine, Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya; Harris Dickinson as Chase and Taylor John Smith as Tate

Great cast but the movie was bizarre and not in a good way.
