What to say - I gave up on this after about an hour. A Spike Lee caper movie that's to clever for it's own good? Maybe It's Denzil Washington; Clive Owen: Jodie Foster; Christopher Plummer; Willem Dafoe & Chiwetel Ejiofor movie that fails to deliver. I was bored and didn't care what happened to any of them, only that it happened quickly so I could go and do something else.

So, time to improve my grade average score and what better way than the excellent; fun-filled; highly recommended "Nobody". 90 mins of hitty punchy stabby slappy revenge violence... and Christopher Lloyd too, what's not to love??

Mmmm, so todays monster movie matinee picture.... on the minus side it is by no means the best Godzilla movie out there, primarily as Godzilla (and hatchlings) are closer to the T Rex in Jurassic Park then what most Godzillas look like, but on the plus side it has Mathew Broderick and some good wisecracks from Jean Reno.

I think I picked this one subconciously linking the egg chamber in yesterdays Aliens to this one in Madison Square Gardens.

PLANE - an English film from 2023 starring Gerard Butler (I like him!!!)
Brodie Torrance saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island - only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye. (IMdB)

A really, really good and exciting action movie. Not a film for an Oscar but very good for a good nail biting evening. And Gerard Butler again in best form. We enjoyed it very much!

It's 1943 and the allies are trying to devise a plan that will protect a massive invasion force from potential massacre. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) to dream up the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war, centered on the most unlikely of secret agents. Based on the true story of the deception about the assault on Sicily the movie (although a little slow in a couple of places) is well done with a good script and an excellent ensemble cast. In addition to Firth & Macfadyen there is Jason Issacs; Simon Russel Beale; Kelly MacDonald; Penelope Wilton; Mark Gatis & Jonny Flynn.

Nice trivia/easter eggs for James Bond fans: Ian Fleming was part of the team that oversaw the deception and it was originally an idea from Fleming that became "Operation Mincemeat". In the movie Fleming referres to his boss as "M" and explains he calls his mother that too, there is a Q Branch too in the movie.

Ahh yes.... well no scary monster season would be complete without this movie, in particular this scene.

Take care - this is what happens if you switch to decaf!!!

This one is not for the faint hearted. This 83min blood soaked thriller from 2022 has popped up on All4 streaming service here in UK. Bull is a brutal, subversive and wickedly suspenseful revenge thriller written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), and featuring outstanding performances from an electric Neil Maskell (Kill List, Utopia) and a terrifying David Hayman (Taboo, Vertical Limit). After a 10-year absence, former gang enforcer Bull returns to his old haunts to find his missing son and seek revenge on those who double crossed him and left him for dead. Painful secrets from the past will soon be revealed and like a man possessed, Bull will stop at nothing to get back at those who must atone for their sins.

CALL BOY a Japanese movie from 2018
Ryo Morinaka is a university student and works part-time at a bar. He is bored with his daily life and exists in a state of torpor. One day, his friend Shinya Tajima brings the owner of a host bar over to the place where Ryo Morinaka works. Shizuka Mido is the owner of the host bar. Soon, Ryo Morinaka begins to work for Shizuka Mido at the members only host bar. He feels embarrassment initially, but he fulfills the desires of women and develops a sense of purpose. (IMdB)

Perhaps a film not for everyone. But if you are unreluctant to get involved with the story, I'll promise it will be a very interesting film and perhaps as well a new point of view for this "job".

MAGIC MIKE'S LAST DANCE starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek
"Magic" Mike Lane (Tatum) takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Hayek Pinault) who lures him with an offer he can't refuse...and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he-and the roster of hot new dancers he'll have to whip into shape-be able to pull it off? - IMdB

A wonderful and "magic" in one word a heart-warming movie. If you will watch it you will loose yourself in the story and live in it.
And Channing Tatum - omg what a man! Very, very, very much recommended. 2 hours of great fun.

A MAN CALLED OTTO with an impressive Tom Hanks
A remake of the fantastic original film adaptation of the novel "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman (2015 Swedish film "A Man Called Ove" directed by Hannes Holm). Ove is a curmudgeon-the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him 'the bitter neighbor from hell.' - IMdB

In my opinion better than the original film. Tom Hanks is awesome as the grumpy grudget old man next door.
Very recommended to all who like to lough and cry.

Thanks for that - I grabbed a copy but have not watched it yet, (the trailer didn't really sell it)

Rutger Hauers' last film role.

Filmed in Sheffield’s world famous Crucible Theatre, London and Beijing, this rags-to-riches story follows the troubled but talented Spencer Pryde (Sam Gittins) a gifted, inner-city kid, wasting his life on petty crime and violence, until a chance encounter with Chinese stranger and former ‘eight ball’ pool champion, Vince Qiang (David Yip) and tough guy club owner Ray (Rutger Hauer) presents him with the opportunity to turn his life around. Jamie Foreman also stars.

This has a predictable plot, solid enough performances but doesn't really jump off the screen at you. It probably helps if you are a big snooker fan.

It's alien; it's ugly; it's violent; it has a limited vocabulary.....it's Arnold Schwarzenegger!

A kind of classic of it's kind, bringing a new monster to the screen and adopting the "less-is-more" strategy with very little seen of the Predator until the later stages and thus keeping the tension ramped up.

Two fallen angels who were ejected from paradise find themselves banned in Wisconsin. They are now headed for New Jersey where they find a loophole that can get them back into heaven. The only catch is that it will destroy humanity. A group bands together to stop them.

The gloriously funny satire from Kevin Smith...Matt Damon; Ben Affleck: Alan Rickman; Linda Florentino; George Carlin; Jason Lee; Kevin Smith; Jason Mewes; Chris Rock & Alanis Morissette star in ths timeless classic.

A PROPHET a French movie from 2009.

Nineteen year-old Franco-Algerian Malik El Djebena is just starting his six year prison sentence in Brécourt. Although he has spent the better part of his life in juvenile detention, this stint is his first in an adult prison. Beyond the division of Corsicans and Muslims in the prison (the Corsicans who with their guard connections rule what happens in the prison), he has no known friends or enemies inside. He is just hoping to serve his time in peace and without incident, despite having no prospects once he's out of jail since he's illiterate and has no support outside of the prison. Due to logistics, the head of Corsican inmates, a sadistic mafioso named César Luciani, co-opts Malik as part of the Corsicans' activities, not only regarding what happens inside the prison, but also continued criminal activities outside. The innocent Malik has no idea what to do but cooperate. This move does not sit well with the other Corsicans, who only see Malik as a dirty Algerian, and the Muslims who now mistrust him. But as time goes on, Malik works to save himself while in prison, while setting up his life post prison on his own terms. Both his demon and his salvation in prison is the specter of one of the first people he really got to know during his incarceration. (IMdB)

With 155 minutes a very long film - but if you have started you will be surprised how quick the time runs. This is a very impressive
movie about life in prison. Very recommended.
