THE BONE COLLECTOR (1999)

A quadriplegic ex-homicide detective and his partner try to track down a serial killer who is terrorizing New York City. Imdb

This was on a streaming service so I gave it a go. Plus-points are it has a young Denzel Washington as the detective and Queen Latifah as his nurse but sadly the plot is a bit contived and never really grabs... and worst of all the rookie partner is Angelina Jolie who is mis-cast and not very good

the Marvels...should really wait til streaming is available...
Well that would have the advantage that instead of having gone out to a cinema you would be at home and half way through you could scream "Jeez this is rubbish" turn it off and watch something else. I tried to watch this a couple of weeks back and thought it was terrible - a big mess of a movie.

KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON (2023)

When oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery. Imdb

This movie has been critically acclaimed as a masterpiece, well each to their own opinion but I'm gonna swim against the tide. I thought, at 3hrs 26mins it was too damn long, maybe 60 to 75mins too long, I wasn't gripped by this at all. So it's directed by Martin Scorsese and stars DiCaprio & De Niro - that doesn't mean it still can't be at best dull, or even worse thoroughly boring.

THE NIGHT COMES FOR US (2018)

Ito, a gangland enforcer, is caught amidst a treacherous and violent insurrection within his Triad crime family upon his return home from a stint abroad. Imdb.

WOW - You want an Indonesian martial arts bloodsplatterfest action movie? You want an insane amount of blood & guts? (this is up there with that Korean gore-fest Project Wolf Hunting). The level of violence is at times savage & brutal and not for the fainthearted. It has a running time of 2hrs and is full on for most of it. Joe Taslim & Iko Awais star.

My big problem was which clip to post? I was close to choosing the clip with the fight in the hi-rise apartment; or the fight in the nightclub; or the fight in the police van or the one in the other apartment or the one in the underground car park etc or any fights including the very brutal & vicious girls .....

....... the one I decided I was definitely NOT going to post was the fight in the backroom of Yohan's butcher shop - with new ideas for what to do with cleavers; meat-hooks; saws and a pig's foot.

IN THE LAND OF SAINTS AND SINNERS (2023)... no trailer due to actor age

In a remote Irish village, a damaged Finbar is forced to fight for redemption after a lifetime of sins, but what price is he willing to pay? In the land of saints and sinners, some sins can't be buried. Imdb

On one hand this Liam Neesson, set in rural Ireland in 1974, is a typical Neeson movie but it is lifted from the usual by some wonderful cinematography; an at times haunting soundtrack and the other main parts being played by Kerry Condon; Ciaràn Hinds; Colm Meaney & Jack Gleeson. I enjoyed it.

RIDERS OF JUSTICE (2020)

Markus, an army officer returns from overseas deployment to look after his daughter after his wife is killed in a train accident. e is approached by two data scientists who say there is substantial evidence to suggest that the train accident was actually a plot to kill a key witness in the trial of the leader of a criminal motorcycle gang, Riders of Justice. With the police unwilling to investigate, he seeks out the truth himself.Imdb

So this Danish action/comedy/drama is written and directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, known for his surreal twisted tales of the odd situations men can find themselves in - anyone else seen his 2015 Men And Chickens? - well weird and, like this one stars Mads Mikkelson. Mads is Markus and the 3 geeks who help him have many neurosis between them and there is a sharp & witty script that balances the violence and dark humour. Much of it's plot focuses on chance(s); coincidence; statistical possibilities and what if's? I spotted this on the All4 steaming service here in the UK. Definitely worth a watch.

HYPNOTIC (2023)

A detective investigates a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program. Imdb

This stars Ben Affleck; Alice Braga & William Fitchner and is writtten/directed by Robert Rodriguez. It has an interesting sci-fi/action/thriller mix but unfortunately it fails and ends up being a mess. Think Adjustment Bureau meets The X-Files (with some special effects nicked from Inception). As for the ending(s), it's really bad to have one character explain the whole plot to another character - I'm not kidding. Then half way through the credits OOOhh - a major twist!! On the positives it only took 93 mins of my life and it's freed up another 1.6Gb on the usb

FINESTKIND (2023)

Finestkind tells the story of two half-brothers (Ben Foster and Toby Wallace), raised in different worlds, who are reunited as adults over a fateful summer. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. Along the way a young woman (Jenna Ortega) finds herself caught perilously in the middle. Sacrifices must be made and bonds between brothers, friends, lovers, and a father (Tommy Lee Jones) and his son are put to the ultimate test. — (IMDb)

Honestly - we have been enthralled! Tommy Lee Jones in a small but really GREAT role. An exciting crime drama. You really should watch it and you will have a great movie evening! This film will show you the truth as the saying goes: Blood is thicker than water!
Very recommended!

LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND (2023)

A family's getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices, and two strangers appear at their door. Imdb,

Having heard a few really good things about it I was was looking forward to this Sam Esmail directed thriller/drama starring Julia Roberts; Mahershala Ali; Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon but I'm afraid it ended up a dissappointment. The performances are fine but I got the feeling that this was a movie that would have been better if M. Night Shayamalan had been involved. It's that sort of movie - or should have been.

THE FAMILY PLAN (2023)

A former top assassin living incognito as a suburban dad must take his unsuspecting family on the run when his past catches up to him. (IMDb)

A very good action comedy - suspense and cool patters! Starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Maggie Q and others.

SOUND OF FREEDOM (2023 but shot in 2018) ... based on true events

"Sound of Freedom", based on the incredible true story, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child-traffickers, a federal agent learns that the boy's sister is still a captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death. (IMDb)

Wow - what a powerful and tough movie. This film will pull the rug out from under your feet. Great the acting from Jim Caviezel!
This story will be the worst nightmare for parents which have had to undergo from up close. Yesterday we've watched A FAMILY PLAN a light hearted action comedy - but this here will be nearly unbelievable! It is past all belief that there are such human beings among us. But sorry for the term "human beings" - they are rats (and that again is an abuse for all rats - because they are social beings!) ... If you will have the possibility to watch this film and if you will have the brass neck for it so please watch it. It is more than recommendet!

I agree entirely. I watched SOUND OF FREEDOM in October and thought it was really good. It's not an easy watch, especially the first half - but recommended.

SISU (2022)

When an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness tries to take the loot into the city, Nazi soldiers led by a brutal SS officer battle him. Imdb

My thanks to Shelter who recommended this way back in the summer. I have had a copy for a while but not watched until tonight. It is superb! One of the reviews in the trailer says "...glorious carnage..." Well they got that right, it's a crazy ride and lots & lots of fun with some wonderful cinematography, stunning Lapland wilderness locations and an atmospheric soundtrack. Recommended

THE RAID: REDEMPTION (2011)

In Jakarta, Indonesia, Lieutenant Wahyu organizes the invasion of an apartment building that is the safe house of the powerful and cruel drug lord Tama and his gang. The SWAT team breaks in the building but one lookout sees and warns the gangsters and the police force is trapped on the seventh floor. They learn that Lt. Wahyu has not informed his superiors about the operation. Now the police officers have to fight with limited ammunition against the armed and dangerous gangsters. Imdb

This is a movie featuring the indonesian martial-arts Pencak Silat and starring Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim and I think they should have named it Raid: Relentless 'cos the fighting and violence is brutal and pretty much non-stop, check out the clip for a 4 min example of what the rest of the 100min movie looks, and sounds like. As to plot; script and character developement - there's no room to fit any of that in.
